I know this is short notice, but I just found out about this and thought I would share. If anyone would like to make a scarf, hat or gloves (or a scarf and hat set) for a young, high school female it would be greatly appreciated!
Girls' Empowerment Mission works to empower disadvantaged teenage girls from
Essex, Maryland, by providing opportunities and experiences to help them break
out of the cycle of poverty they were born into. GEM provides mentoring,
after-school activities, and weekend retreats intended to supplement what they
learn in school. Programming includes speakers, workshops, field trips and
helping the girls prepare for and navigate the college process.
Each year we celebrate the girls' hard work with a special Holiday party. The party
includes gifts and we would love for each of our 39 high school girls to receive
a hand knitted item or set. We are looking for 39 sets of hats, scarves and
gloves. Any contribution is greatly appreciated. Contributions can be
dropped off with any of the event hosts or at All About Yarn- we need them by November 27.
GEM is a Living Classrooms program, and is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. All
contributions are tax-deductible. GEM is in its ninth year of improving lives!
