Charlotte Veg Fest

Columbia doesn't have a Veg Fest (YET!), so, for now - we have to take advantage of the fact that Charlotte is only a short drive away.  Will it be worth the trip?  Well - let me be the first to tell you guys that GENE BAUR happens to be one of their speakers, and he will also be doing a book signing......... *gasp*  WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!  Who's Gene Baur?  Oh - well he's only the founder of Farm Sanctuary (the most wonderful place on earth).  Oh yeah - and there will be food and stuff, too.  Seriously, guys.  This is huge.

Enjoyed the event; couldn't have happened on a better day. The food samples were generous, but for an actual meal I would have preferred more options than prepackaged items from a cooler. (Luckily, Fern was right around the corner.) The Gene Baur presentation was very good. We didn't run into anyone from Columbia until almost 3:00. Next time we're all meeting out of town, it might be a good idea to designate a meeting place/time so that any newbies to the group will be able to meet others from Columbia.

So many no-shows. We were surprised. Charlotte vagfest 2013 was really nice, the weather was perfect. A little rain on the way home, but otherwise really great to see and sample so many vegan things. Also, ate at Fern, which was phenomenal, too much great food. And on Saturdays & Sundays one dollar bloody mary's. Sorry that so many missed this.

Glad the rain held off during the festival! I really enjoyed hearing Gene Baur speak! Thanks for posting it to MeetUp.

I joined the group a few weeks back but just found out I'm being transferred to Charleston for my job next month. I am still planning on attending Vegfest this weekend though and would love to meet up with some of you! A friend and I are planning to leave Columbia around 11am so we can be there at 1pm. Should we plan a time/place to all gather during the festival?

We're not sure of the setup, really... but I'm sure it'll be small enough to find everybody. If anybody sees this before they go - I'll try go be at wherever the speakers will be at around 1pm.

Ok. I am planning to be at the 1pm speaker as well. I don't know what any of you look like, but I'll be in a bright coral tank top and jeans with braided hair ;-) If you see me, come say hi!

So, what exactly is this? Is it like a farmers' market type thing with vendors and food? It is it like a conference with speakers and lectures? Or both?

    May 10, 2013

    • Lisa

It's both - from what I understand. Last year it was really small... but it's supposed to be much bigger this year.

Hey guys! This event just keeps getting bigger.. now they also have Leilani Munter (race car driver and activist) as another speaker on top of Gene Baur (holy cow!)... I mean... not on top of him, but you know what I mean. Now's the time to get together some car-pooling ideas if that's something you want to do. I'll be doing a round from NE Columbia to Irmo to drop off a foster dog at 11am, then heading out to Charlotte... planning to get there around 12:30. I may have to leave at a little before 3pm to get back in time to grab my foster dog if she hasn't been adopted... so I can't stay the whole time. It's going to be me and Mila (she's 7) - so if anybody wants to hop in with me - I have room for 2 more!

Lisa if you still have the spots open, we would love to ride with you (and help with the gas of course!) We could meet you at Providence Northeast right off I-77 or wherever works for you. Just tell me what time.

      May 9, 2013

    • Lisa

We do! You still bringing your little girl? That would be great for Mila ... they could hang out! We will be in that area around 11:30am. Call or text me so we can work out the details[masked]

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
