This is a group for people who want to practice and improve their Japanese language skills. We have 2 kinds of events: Benkyoukai, Japanese language study sessions broken out into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels, and Special Events. Here is an overview of what you can expect at the various types of meetups.
AdvancedBenkyoukai provide a forum for free, open discussion in Japanese. Usually there is a topic and a news article that everyone reads and discusses. We try to keep these meetups at least 90% in Japanese.
Intermediate Benkyoukai are aimed at those who have studied Japanese for 2 to 4 years in a classroom setting. Usually we work through a textbook lesson. Participants can feel free to use English when necessary.
Beginner Benkyoukai are for those who have had a little training in Japanese and are looking to learn more. We usually present a grammar point then use that to practice speaking and building sentences. We will try to accommodate all levels, however the sessions are designed for those who have some previous knowledge of Japanese grammar.
Special Events are festivals or parties that are open to everyone. We do not provide any learning materials, though participants are always welcome to ask any question they may have.
Our goal is that everyone who participates in our meetups walks away knowing a little more Japanese than when they came in. Please note, this is not a social club for people who are interested in learning about Japan nor do we provide comprehensive Japanese lessons. Come to our meetups if you want to practice Japanese and learn more. Native speakers also welcome.
