Intro to Middle Eastern drumming

An experienced Middle Eastern drum teacher will start with the basics.

Learn drum strikes and proceed to rhythm and rhythm combinations using call and response techniques. This class is ideal for belly dancers and those interested in belly dance, drum circle people, African or Native American drummers who wish to expand their repertoire, or anyone interested in the world percussion scene. We'll learn rhythms from Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Morroco, etc.Classes are scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month for September, October, and November, and will run longer if there is interest.A few loaner drums will be available. Bring a dumbek or djimbe or other hand drum if you have one. Tambourines and zills will also work, so bring them!

No cost, but there will be a donation box to pay for the space, tea, water, etc

I play a trap set - have for years but also enjoy percussion in general. What type of drum would be good to bring?

HI Ronald - the drums that are used need to have two sounds. So, the drums that are brought are djembes and doumbecs. They have a base sound and a slap sound. :)

Hey dawn you mentioned a drumming workshop in your email is it thru the drum group or a different one thru the center

Hi Rob, the drumming workshops are the middle eastern ones through the 'columbus drum circle' meetup. Though they are held at the CIC, I'll post all drumming related stuff through the drum meetup :)
