SAVING MR. BANKS @ Cinemark Gahanna (6:45PM Showing)

This week we’ll get together to see two-time academy award winners Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson star in SAVING MR. BANKS, the story behind the making of the Disney classic, Mary Poppins!  Rotten Tomatoes, which has the film currently rated at an excellent 81% says, “Saving Mr. Banks pays tribute to the Disney legacy with excellent performances and sweet, high-spirited charm.”  Here’s a description, trailer and plan for the show:

DESCRIPTION:  Author P. L. Travers reflects on her difficult childhood while meeting with filmmaker Walt Disney during production for the adaptation of her novel, Mary Poppins.  The film is inspired by the extraordinary, untold backstory of how Disney's classic "Mary Poppins" made it to the screen, including a very curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer and a promise Walt Disney made to his daughters to bring their favorite book to the big screen!  Saving Mr. Banks stars Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and Emma Thompson as writer P.L. Travers.  Here are some early reviews and articles:

Updated Plan:  We’ll plan to see Saving Mr. Banks on Friday, January 3rd at Cinemark Gahanna (weekend ticket prices are - adults: $7.25, children & seniors: $5.25). We'll plan to meet in the theater lobby between 6:00pm-6:20pm. We'll be seeing the **6:45PM SHOWING**. After the movie, we'll gather at Max & Erma's (located nearby in the same plaza) for some food, drink and chat. Any questions, concerns or directions needed post a comment, email me or give me a call. Look forward to seeing you there!

Excellent movie! Was surprised at how emotional the movie was, with some wonderful light moments and some touching and heartbreaking ones too. I thought Emma Thompson had a great performance. It was a nice evening out with fellow CMG members. I'm sorry for those who couldn't make it due to the accident on 270. Hope everyone got home safely. Look forward to seeing you at future events.

This was my favorite of all the movies I have seen recently. Emma Thompson's performance was wonderful. I dug out my old VHS tape last night and watched Mary Poppins last night.

I see why it was necessary to save Mr. Banks. I thought the title was weird and was determined to come up with a different title until I saw the movie itself. No need for a different title after all.

We were stuck in traffic for over an hour on 270 and finally turned around. Sorry to miss it.

It was a great movie. I liked the way that the different stories were woven in together.

I also missed tonight, very disappointed but fearful my car would get stuck in my alley with all the ice - and it's far too cold to risk that. Wish I was there. Maybe the next one.

Who is Mr. Banks and why does he need saving?

    1 · December 29, 2013

    • Carlos S.

I believe he's the father in the Mary Poppins story. And hopefully why he needs saving will be answered in this movie. Join us and we'll find out.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
