DALLAS BUYERS CLUB at Gateway Film Center

DALLAS BUYERS CLUB finally arrives on the Columbus Movie Group calendar!  Join us on Thursday, December 5th as we get together to watch DALLAS BUYERS CLUB, the amazing true story of Texas electrician Ron Woodroof and his battle with the medical establishment and pharmaceutical companies after being diagnosed as HIV-positive in 1986.  I don’t know if you’ve seen trailers but this looks fantastic!  Here's a complete description, trailer and plan:

DESCRIPTIONDALLAS BUYERS CLUB stars Matthew McConaughey as real-life Texas cowboy Ron Woodroof, whose life was turned up-side-down when he was diagnosed as HIV-positive and given 30 days to live back in the early days of the AIDS epidemic. In this true story, he then took matters into his own hands by tracking down alternative treatments from all over the world by means both legal and illegal. Bypassing the establishment, the entrepreneurial Woodroof joined forces with an unlikely band of renegades and outcasts - who he once would have shunned - and established a hugely successful "buyers' club." Their shared struggle for dignity and acceptance is a uniquely American story of the transformative power of resilience.  Starring Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto, and Jennifer Garner.

Showtime and location have been confirmed!  We'll be seeing Dallas Buyers Club at the Gateway Film Center on Thursday, December 5th (where all CMG events are just $6.50 per person)!  Purchase your ticket for 7:40pm showing and meet me in the upstairs lobby between 7:00 and 7:20pm.   After the show, be sure to join us next door at Mad Mex for food, drinks, and conversation!  Look forward to seeing you there!

Great movie and location - my first time at Gateway. I enjoyed getting to meet a few more members, and the guacamole afterwards!

    Dan:

I suspected that the movie would be a good one; I saw the trailer and an interview on TV. Maybe I will see it at another theater. How accessible is the movie theater? I see that you use it a lot. How far is the parking? Does this theater have steps. This is why I have not attended. I am not familiar with the area or the gateway Film center. Thanks.

Hi Loyce: The parking is actually closer than most theaters. The nearby garage is adjacent to the theater and there is an elevator in the garage. The theater is on the second floor but again, there is an escalator and elevator. We go there a lot because they're always very good to the group, provide a very nice discount and help with showtimes/movies. If you get a chance, you should definitely give it a try! Take care and look forward to seeing you again soon.

An unusually small but exceptionally fun group!! Movie was fantastic! Interesting and very moving. If you missed it with the group, I highly recommend it! The performances by Matt McConaughey and Jared Leto will be hard to top come award season. The post-movie gang of 6 was a lot of fun where conversation flowed as easily as the shared desserts!

Not sure what happened here. I didn't get an e-mail about location change, and when I checked the website beforehand, it still said Gateway at 6:30 (and still does). I got to Gateway at 6:10 and the ticket agent knew nothing about a Meetup and said the movie didn't open there until Friday. So I figured, must have moved to AMC Lennox.

Went to AMC Lennox, same story. No one from the group there, no one at the theatre knew anything about a Meetup. So I went to see the movie by myself anyway. It was really good. Matthew McConaughey's inherent smarminess stood him in very good stead in this role. He was excellent. The whole thing was 4 stars.

(By the way, they showed a trailer for Wes Anderson's next film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and it looks fantastic.)

I believe I saw on interview with the main actor about this situation for getting drugs, and how one would get into the club, and the costs of getting in.
