Hi!

Thanks for the GREAT response to our Manhattan Short + Pizza Buffet this Sunday, September 29th!  This event is now SOLD OUT!  Due to limited seating for the post-movie portion, we will be unable to add any additional spaces for this event!  For those who are on the RSVP list -- I look forward to seeing you there!!  I'll send out a Manhattan Short update, instructions, drink specials and other info to you a little later this week!

Lots of other great events coming up on the CMG calendar!  Be sure to check out our revised FALL MOVIE PREVIEW below -- including info on two fantastic fall films which have already made their way onto the calendar!  Once again, we may not be able to get all of these great films on the calendar but we’ll do our best!

  • GRAVITY: Oscar winners Sandra Bullock and George Clooney team up as astronauts in this “heart-pounding, thrilling and visually spectacular” start to Oscar season! Gravity has just been added to our CMG calendar for Friday, October 11th! You can check out details and sign up here to join Carlos at this event: http://www.meetup.com/Columbus-Movie-Group/events/139145252/
  • CAPTAIN PHILLIPS: The first of two Tom Hanks films scheduled to hit theaters this fall. This film tells the true story of the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates -- the first US cargo ship to be hijacked in 200 years. Captain Phillips was also just added to our CMG calendar for Friday, October 18th! Click here for complete details or to join Carlos at this event: http://www.meetup.com/Columbus-Movie-Group/events/136145042/
  • THE COUNSELOR: This dramatic crime thriller finds a lawyer in over his head after a one-time dalliance with less-than-legal activities. The film stars Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz and is directed by Ridley Scott. Stay tuned…the Counselor may be coming soon to a CMG calendar near you!
  • ENDER'S GAME: Lots of high expectations for this sci-fi adventure based on the best-selling and book by Orson Scott Card! This one looks fantastic and you still have time to read the book before we see the movie (I’m reading it now)!
  • THOR: THE DARK WORLD: Avenger THOR returns in the follow-up to last year's surprisingly good action adventure! Starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman.
  • 12 YEARS A SLAVE: Lots of buzz, amazing reviews and a thunderous standing ovation at the Toronto Film Festival make 12 Years a Slave one not to be missed! This film tells the true story of a free black man from upstate New York who is abducted and sold into slavery. Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt. 12 Years a Slave is out on limited release in October and likely to make our calendar sometime thereafter.
  • THE WOLF OF WALL STREET: The first of what I’m calling “Three Must See Films” this fall! The Wolf of Wall Street tells the true story of a wealthy stock-broker living the high life until his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Martin Scorsese.
  • THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE: We thoroughly enjoyed the first in this series which puts the second film very high on our list! Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Huterson, Liam Hemsworth, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
  • INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS:The second of our “Three Must See Films” this fall! The Coen Brothers return to spend a week in the life of a young singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961. Early buzz is very good! Starring Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan and John Goodman.
  • THE HOBBIT: THE DEOLATION OF SMAUG: The second film in Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy is rumored to have more action and the appearance of the dragon, Smaug!
  • AMERICAN HUSTLE: The names alone make this one a must see! Director David O. Russell assembles his dream cast of Christian Bale and Amy Adams (of The Fighter) along with Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence (of Silver Linings Playbook) to tell the story of a con artist and his partner forced to work with federal agents to turn the tables on other cons.
  • THE MONUMENTS MEN: The third film our our “Three Must See” films this fall is The Monuments Men! Directed and starring George Clooney, The Monuments Men is the true story of a crew of art historians and museum curators as they race against time to recover renowned works of art before Hitler destroys them. In addition to Mr. Clooney, the all-star cast includes Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin (The Artist) and Bill Murray.
  • ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND CONTINUES: Okay, not exactly an "award-caliber movie," but the first one was so much fun, just the thought of the sequel has me smiling already!
  • FOXCATCHER: The story of Olympic Wrestling Champion Mark Schultz and his brother Olympic Champion Dave Schultz, who was killed by paranoid schizophrenic. Starring Steve Carell, Mark Ruffalo, Channing Tatum. Most details for this film have been kept tight under wraps, which is generating some excitement and a bit of award buzz.
  • SAVING MR. BANKS: Tom Hanks' second big fall film has him starring as none other than Walt Disney in the story of the long road to fulfill a promise to film the classic Mary Poppins! Also starring Emma Thompson and Colin Farrell.
  • THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY: Ben Stiller stars and directs what many are predicting to be the comedy of the season! The Secret Life of Walter Mitty tells the story of an office worker who lives inside fantasy worlds where he gets to live an adventurous life while romancing his co-worker (Kristin Wiig).
  • AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY: A year after winning the Oscar for Best Actress, Meryl Streep is back in another award-worthy performance -- this time with Juliette Lewis and Julia Roberts as they star in the film version of Tracy Letts' Pulitzer Prize winning play!

Take care and look forward to seeing you soon!
