Though this shoot is intended for newbies, it's been on the books for a little while, so I'm now calling out to those who are a little above the "newbie" level who may want to get some shots of a gorgeous young lady outdoors. If you don't mind working at a slightly slower pace and even contributing to the learning experience for our registered "newbies," please consider checking out this shoot!
Ask yourself these questions:
• Do you feel a little intimidated by the idea of photographing outdoors?
• Do you want to learn the basics of how to best light a model/client outdoors without having to carry a studio's-worth of equipment around with you?
• Do you feel at a loss for determining what settings to use for portraiture outdoors?
• Do you wonder what gear you can get by with outdoors and how to use those tools?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, this 2.5 hour workshop is for you! And, you should walk away from this shoot with some great images as well!
If you have experience with portraiture outdoors, this workshop is not necessarily for you -- this is a hands-on workshop as opposed to the normal model shoot where we are shooting most of the time. Not only will we discuss working with a combination of natural and added light (e.g., reflector, fill flash), but we will also work through practical considerations and posing our subject. I will also go over camera settings used for outdoor portraiture (You should know how to change your ISO, shutter speed, and aperture in manual mode even if you are not comfortable with determining the combination of these settings to use -- please make sure you can change the settings in manual prior to our shoot. Please contact me with any questions or concerns in this area.).
Our model for this workshop style shoot is Divinity (goes by Dee) definitely is a perfect example. At 5'1", she is a gorgeous young lady with a fun, outgoing personality. See images of Dee included below.
WHEN: Please plan on arriving at least 15 minutes early to allow time for "housekeeping items" as we will promptly get started at 4:30 sharp sharp so we can utilize every moment possible of our 2.5 hour time together. Also, if things are going well, we may shoot together a little past our 7:00 scheduled end time.
I plan on being there by 4:00 p.m., so if there is anyone new to shooting with the group or shooting outdoors, I can give you an overview of what to expect and the basics you need to know for the shoot.
Weather or other conditions could impact our ability to shoot this day, so please make sure to check with me if there's any doubt (my contact info is included below). Also, make sure that you check for update/e-mails from me via the Meetup interface when we get close to our shoot date. If we cannot shoot this day, this shoot will be rescheduled (likely for another Sunday, late afternoon/early evening).
WHAT TO BRING: Bring your camera, preferred portraiture lens(es), and your creativity. A willingness to learn & have fun are a big plus!
If you have one, please bring your (detachable) flash. I have a Canon 580EX II flash that I'm glad to share with the Canon users. Nikon and others, you're on your own. If you will be bringing a flash, please know how to change the settings (e.g., TTL vs. manual modes).
A bottle of water so you can stay hydrated is a must since it will likely be very hot! :-)
WHERE: We will meet at my truck in the parking lot at Goodale Park. I will park as close to the playground area as I can. I have a bluish-colored Honda Pilot and I have personalized plates (MORISUE).
It should be noted that there are other great locations nearby the park should it be unavailable due to any events that I'm not aware of.
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT: Each photographer will need to provide our model (as well as any MUA, stylist, or other talent included as part of the shoot) with five retouched/edited digital images from the shoot within 14 of the shoot. If you cannot meet that deadline or have any questions, please contact me prior to registering for the shoot. If you do not wish to or are unable to meet this requirement, please do not sign up for this shoot. This requirement is important because the images received from the shoot is the the primary way that our models (and MUAs, stylists, etc.) are compensated for their time and talent in working with us. We typically provide these to the models via Dropbox. I’m glad to be of assistance if you don't know how to do this. Also, please post your finished images to the folder for this shoot -- the photographer images posted for our shoots helps to promote future shoots and our group in general!
UPDATES: Also, please note that any updates, changes, or new information will be posted as comments here. Thus, I recommend checking comments below before coming to the shoot.
ORGANIZER CONTACT INFORMATION: Here's my direct contact information. The cell number is especially helpful if you register for this shoot and have any last minute issues or such.
