Buckeye Lake BBQ Road Trip & Sweet Corn Festival

End of the summer means Sweet Corn Festival in Millerport on Buckeye Lake. We will be carpooling to the Point Lounge & Smokehouse BBQ in Thornville (~25 miles east of Columbus) for dinner followed by a visit the Sweet Corn Festival in nearby Millersport on the other side of the Lake.

About the Point Lounge & Smokehouse BBQ

The Port Lounge and Smokehouse is a located on east side of Buckeye Lake and offers a good place to eat, drink and enjoy some live entertainment. They are located 2 miles south of I-70 and 1 block west of the Rt 13-Honeycreek Road Intersection.

The Smokehouse features applewood smoked BBQ and eight signature sauces including sweet whiskey, cajun garlic, smoked habanero and pineapple jalapeno. The also have a bier garden with area brewed Hoster's. The owner's great grandfather was the master brewer at Hoster's - once a major brewery in Columbus. 9308 Township Rd. 79,[masked],www.theportlounge.com.

About the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival

Millersport Sweet Corn Festival was created to celebrate the end of summer at Buckeye Lake and has been a tradition in Fairfield County since the mid 1940s. Come enjoy hot butter flavored sweet corn served fresh on the cob and piping hot. Bring the whole family to experience a wide variety of delicious foods, a large midway with lots of rides, tractor pulls, square dancing, contests galore, farm animals, historical exhibits and top-name country music entertainers while strolling the shady hills of Historic Lions Park.

Proceeds from this four-day community event is a major source of income for over 75 non-profit charitable organizations operating all of the food and game concessions. Millersport is 25 miles east of Columbus on State Route 204 overlooking the south shore of Buckeye Lake.

Admission is free, but there is a $5 fee per car parking if you park on the festival grounds in the 85 acre parking lot.

And while the sweet corn is good - really good - it's the fresh donuts that people line up for. Seriously worth the wait.

The Lakewood Band Booster have been staffing the booth for over a generation and the donuts are fantastic. The proceeds from the booth funds the majority of their budget for the year. So eat a donut or two -  come on its for the kids!

If anyone would like to carpool for the evening. Let me know and we can arrange to meet on the east side of town. Probably at the Panera on RT 256 & I-70 in Reynoldsburg. Have a great Labor Day Weekend!
