Sunday Sept 1 scenic ride & buffet to Stockport Mill!

  • September 1, 2013 · 11:00 AM

Thanks to Tami Starr for setting this up!

Stockport Mill website http://www.stockportmill.com/

We will meet east of Columbus and avoid congestion.  It will take about 90 minutes, 58 miles, to arrive at the Stockport Mill. It will be scenic but we will NOT be traveling on twisty State Route 555 - for those that have expressed concern about it.

Gather around 11:00-ish and we'll depart around 11:20am - fueled up and bladder empty! We'll get there around 1pm, have lunch, explore and take pictures a bit then take a different scenic route back and be home between 5:00 & 5:30.

Ride Map

The Sunday Buffet is from Noon to 4pm and is $12.90 per person. It's ALOT of food and desert! You'll love it!! Tami says it is something to see for sure!

Hoo-hah!!i'm able to get on!!!! Tried several times and no luck wif widdle phone.

Thanks for all the work on putting this ride together. Yes some got lost, but got sorted out. Nice place to relax and good food.

While and if this one posts....I am doing my annual Leaf Tour...said my info posted, but no do see it!

If any here are interested, I am doing my run Sunday, Oct. 6, the day after the posted Hocking Hills.

Meet time is 11AM in Danville, Ohio. Gas station there, at would be best described as the Square. Intersections of USR62, SR514 and SR206. Usually the odd group from area, but all are welcome. Ride will be around 175 miles. That will be in addition to you travel from Columbus. We will ride hills, river road, tree tunnel and maybe a bit of Amish Country. Ride will stop at Roscoe Village with lunch on your own. Most can and do leave from there. I will offer a return loop to Danville for those interested.

Thanks for Stockport Mill ride. Great time!

Greg, just sent you an email directly... you add rides by clicking the "Schedule a ride" button right below the CMR name on the main home page. Any questions or issues email me directly. Thanks! Andrew

I posted...or so I thought. I did click on and entered the info. Next was the "button" to click that was POST. Clicked on it and response was "posted". I had put up a thank you e route home from ride, when wife and I stopped. Then did two more. None went thru. I was on the little phone for the connection. I' m going to guess the phone may not be the best route to posting. On iPad, and this seems to work.

    Why Do We Ride?

We ride for the freedom of the open road.
We ride for the feel of the bike beneath us.
We ride for the excitement of…
Pushing the starter and feeling the engine come alive,
the roar of the pipes, dropping it into first, letting out on the clutch
and the power of the v-twin pushing you forward.
The wind in your hair, the road passing underneath, the unmatched
feeling of being alive and unbridled.
We ride for camaraderie, fellowship, friendship, and fun.
It’s not about the destination, but the road that gets you there.
It’s not about when you arrive but that you arrived safe.
It’s not about petty bickering, but building lasting friendships.
Give thanks to God that we have the resources and ability to ride.
Just show up for each ride with gratitude in your heart, a willingness to participate, looking forward to making new friends, and enjoy the time together!

Beautiful ride, very large group probably should have been split up. But no one would step up to head another group. I thought Andrew was very patient with our impatient group.

    • Andrew S.

Amy, when 3/4ths of our group stopped at the Sunoco station after the big 4 way stop (which I had mentioned during the pre-ride meeting) I did call Dottie at The Stockport Mill Inn and advised her that we would be arriving late. I was trying to be considerate.

And when I asked about others willing to ride lead/tail I didn't hear/see any volunteers - I wish I would have seen the other Andy's offer! As slow and moderately paced I tried to lead we still lost 6 at the 266 left turn 4 miles from Stockport!

      September 2, 2013

  • James G.

I enjoyed the ride, but I could definitely have done without the tension when we ran late. Our group tried to go with the flow and ended up as a lost group of six. The Mill was great! The food was good. The ride back home was excellent.

    • Andy

Sorry your group was left behind. Glad you found your way to the restaraunt.

      2 · September 2, 2013

  • Tami

I agree! It should have been broken up into 3 groups. I have never organized a group ride before and I didn't sign up to be an organizer on this one, but I was appointed one, I guess because I came up with the destination location. It may have gone a little smoother if we would have left on time too, but we were behind the 8 ball at the start. Anyway, it all worked out and for the most part, we all had a great day!

    1 · September 2, 2013

    • Andy

I agree we had issues from the start. Having the leader show up 30 minutes late (due to work issues) did not help. Maybe it was me but i thought the group was broken up with 2 leaders. Now here we are in a Large Kroger parking lot. Why did we have stage out on route 40? Very dangerous. Then to have the group leave and have the leader come speeding up in the opposite lane just to get in front. Then at a major intersection to get off the bike and attempt to stop on coming traffic. Again not only danagerous but illegal. And my last comment, what happen to we do not leave anyone behind? Just my 2 cents if anyone cares. Thanks again Tami as the restaraunt was nice and we had great weather.

The route was scenic but the parked train at the crossing was an unexpected delay for our tummies!

    September 1, 2013

  • Bob B.

Maybe this idea is a non-starter, but I am new to the group, so excuse me if it is. Since the group is large, does it ever split up on the way and use two different routes to the same destination?
My idea is for those who would like to ride on 555, to split off from 37 when we get to 555, ride 20 miles on 555, then turn north on 377, right on Co Rd 17/Roosterville Rd, and then pick up 266 into Stockport, the latter being on the planned route.
This is about 24 miles longer than the planned route, and would add, I guess, maybe 40 minutes to the ride time. We could then all take the planned route back home.
Yesterday I took this route to Stockport and took the planned ride back. So, it does work.

    September 1, 2013

  • Jack

In the event anyone splits off to do the 555, I rode it yesterday from it's mouth, at the Ohio River, up to RT 669 in Deavertown. The rain Friday night washed MOST of the dust off the road, so it's pretty clean. There were a lot of bikes on it yesterday, but I don't think I would lead a line of Harleys on it. A very experienced Strom Trooper friend, from Canada, had a mishap, going through a curve, and is now missing a wind screen, and nursing a sore wrist.

last sunday i70 east narrowed lanes before the 256 south exit and 256 north exit was closed. suggest avoiding 70 in both directions as experienced with the boondoggle trip a few weeks back.

I do have a question what about the possible weather issues this weekend?

    August 29, 2013

    • Andrew S.

Such as? If it doesn't rain you stay dry, if it does you'll get wet unless you wear a rainsuit. (smiles) Unless it's a torrential downpour we'll ride. Every rider needs to assess their personal skill, experience and comfort level whether to ride if there is liquid sunshine present or not.

Count me in for lunch but I will not be riding with the group to the mill. Meeing in Hebron is out of my way and I would prefer to travel another route to the mill verse going out of my way on the freeway. Depending on the route after lunch, I might ride back with the group.
