Komen Race for the Cure - "Thunder Alley"

If you want to meet at State Auto with Brian around 6:45 and then ride to High Street that's fine.

OR

Just meet us on North High on the east side of the street. See below...

Anyone interested and available to join "Thunder Alley" this year to motivate, encourage, and cheer on the participants of the Columbus Komen Race for the Cure. A great time to make your pipes heard with NO penalty!

Call[masked] and choose option # 2 to speak with Andrew the morning of the event to find where we are.

I am going to print a MeetUp color page and tape it to my windshield (It's an option to do right here from our website).

Oh, and wear something pink!

Even after all these years, I still cry! I cry with gratitude for every new day, I cry for those who have lost their battle against this dreaded disease and for those going through it! We can all do our part by raising money to help find a cure! Great to meet everyone and look forward for rides to come!!

This is a bittersweet morning for me. I've walked the Race for the Cure four times. In remembrance of Brian's mom who lost her battle in 98, and my aunt Becky who lost hers in '11. I also walked for two aunts and a friend who are survivors. This year I add another friend to the list of survivors. Since I cannot walk the race this year, I'm excited to cheer on those who are. Thank you for riding out to Thunder Alley!

Put on your big girl panties, get on your crotch rocket, and get downtown! Oh...GOOD MORNING.

The actual race starts at 8 am and Thunder Tunnel (alley) is very close to the START of the race. Stay as short or as long as you wish but the walkers may be past our location by mid morning sometime.

Ok, not a lot of interest in an early morning breakfast so lets go with "Plan B".

PLAN B: Meet in front of the State Auto Building at 518 E Broad St (just West of I-71) at 6:45am. Ride to Thunder Alley about 5 minutes away at 7am to meet up with Andy who will be reserving us a spot. This way we can stay together as a group and enjoy the day.

Thats fine Steve... and Ben you dont have to get there at 6:45 or even 7... just call when you're heading down and I'll give you specifics on location and if we have room!

So, Brian mentioned breakfast before getting together (which is Way too early for me!) but i was wondering if anyone is planning a ride After it is all done?

I am about to take a nap now, in hopes it allows me to wake up in time. (for me, that means 5am, and i'm usually going to bed around 2-3am..which is why it isn't exactly easy for me on these early things)

      May 15, 2014

Is anyone interested in doing breakfast before the Komen? If not we can plan on meeting at the race.

    May 13, 2014

I'll be on High Street getting our spots reserved around 7-ish. Anyone can call me at[masked] and choose option # 2 to reach me to confirm our location.

I'd like to come down and hang out for a while, my wife is running and we'll take the bike down. Is it possible to take off before the whole thing is finished when I go pick her up?

    May 14, 2014

    • Andrew S.

Yes, you can leave by backing up on the sidewalk and riding gently to a side surface road. At least you can where we were at 2 years ago.

      1 · May 14, 2014

    • Brian B

I'm not sure but I would assume so as long as you don't interfere with any of the runners.

      May 14, 2014

  • Ben

IF I am able to wake up in time.... That's always a big IF

If anyone wants to get their "pink on" ... Party City has hair spray, beads, boas, leis, etc. If you've never been to the Komen before, you will see pink EVERYWHERE!

    May 13, 2014

Saturday's forecast (for now) partly sunny and 63. Dress appropriately and bring on the noise.

Since I can't participate as a walker this year, I'll don my pink and join the Alley with my husband (Brian B) as his passenger. Just have to convince him to "pink up" for it :-)

    1 · May 5, 2014

Ken, We are getting an XL can to pink you up too!

Well, I'm bummed that I will miss this, as I promised to help collect donations for the American Legion Auxialiary Poppy Fund here in Johnstown. Someone please post pics!

As tempted as I am for breakfast assuming the weather is decent I'll go down and get a spot on the east side of High Street and "reserve it for our group". (that way we dont look into the morning sun) You can call me at[masked] and choose option #2 to call me to see exactly where I/we are if you'd like to be together.

As this event approaches I was thinking that we might meet for breakfast at the Frisch's Big Boy at I-71 and Hudson (by Crew Stadium) nlt 6am and ride to the event after getting our bellies full.

In need of a ride. I'm looking to be a passenger. Is there a guy available & willing to take me along?

    March 15, 2014

  • Brian B

I was contemplating a meeting place other than AD Farrow so all of us could ride into AD Farrow as a group but yes, we will ultimately stage at AD Farrow and ride to the designated "Thunder Alley" point from there.

    March 5, 2014

    • Andrew S.

Brian, if you look at how we've done this in the past we have staked out a location on the east side of High Street (so we are not looking into the sun) and met there directly. It allows us better continuity with meeting our CMR peeps and get a better choice of location. Personally I enjoy the people and scooter watching at our location way before the race starts - not so much looking at 'em at ADF.

      March 5, 2014

    • Brian B

Thanks for the insight Andy. I am good either way. We can go directly to the Thunder Alley area or fellowship a little at ADF before the event. All opinions welcome.

      March 5, 2014

  • Patrick S.

Will this meet at AD Farrows then travel to Thunder Alley? I am wanting to plan as many folks from my group to come as possible so would like to know where to tell them to meet up. Thanks!
