Current info 6/1/14

Robertsville State Park - June 10 - 12, camping, kayaking?

Please continue contributing in the conversation.

Don

I am soliciting group leaders (and fellow participants) for Tuesday through Thursday camping (kayaking, hiking, etc) outings.  My NEW email address is [masked].

I am trying to coordinate people who are available for Tuesday through Thursday outings (camping, kayaking, etc.).  I work weekends during the warm weather.  I have some flexibility on days I can get away during the week.  The idea is that most of the population goes out on the weekends, so that when we go out midweek, we do not have to travel as far a distance to get away from the crowds (Shawnee National Park, IL,  Pierre Marquette Park near Grafton, Mark Twain National Forest, Rout 66 Park near Eureka, etc. – places that are within approximately  two hours of downtown St. Louis).  May be try to concentrate on second and fourth week of the month – or some other pattern so people can work it in to their schedule.  I may only be able to go on some outings

I am going to start with the second week of June (June 10-12) and work on fourth week of June (June 24-26).  My NEW anonymous email is [masked]

If someone has any other Meet Up groups that they want to publicize on, feel free to do so.  If someone can post this concept (or event) on SLAG (St. Louis Adventure Group – SLAG has 2,500 members), that may increase the number of participants.

Please spread the word on this.  We have a good start (There are approximately 8 email address gathered from a previous Comfort Camping group email message).  If more people are involved, then the second and fourth week of the month pattern may work (or, other pattern).

We will try to spread out the geographical locations (north , south, east and west of St. Louis).  Please share ideas and suggestions.  The more input, the better.  Please use comments to add ideas (I am trying to find out if information and input from members works in this style of posting)

Thank you,

Don

I can bring some wood and charcoal, lighter fluid, matches. Do most campsites have a cooking grate? I can bring cooking grate.

Any interest in kayaking the Merremac? I have two kayaks. Any ideas on potluck meals?

I'm already signed up for 2 camping trips in June, but I would be very interested in July trips during the week! Please keep me posted.

Bennett Springs is a strong candidate. Robertsville State Park is close and on the Merramac River. I have kayaked the Merremace 3 times launching from Pacific Palisades (mile 147 on Merremac) and taking out (shuttling) at Allenton (mile 154). Robertsville State Park acces on Merremac (mile 139 - eight miles upstream from Pacific Palisades). If anyone has hints about this section of the Merremac, please add them.

I can bring two kayaks with life jackets, paddles. Camping near water (river)is very appealing to me. Please start thinking about July and August locations with the Missouri heat. Someone mentioned that Shaunee National Forrest in Illinois has swim-able lakes. Taking a swim (kayaking) in a lake to cool off has merits.

June 10 is not that far off.
How about a nearby park for the first of these adventures. Robertsville State Park is just south of Pacific and is easy to find.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
