This project is run by Conservation Volunteers New Zealand.
Porirua Harbour is undergoing restoration and enhancement as part of the Harbour and Catchment Strategy and Action Plan. This initiative will see saltwater wetland and saltmarsh areas restored to help improve water quality. This estuary is important habitat for migratory and resident birds and fish and is recognised as a fish nursery for species including kahawai, snapper and sand flounder. Today we will be identifying and removing environmental woody weeds such as gorse, karo and evergreen buckthorn to improve the native integrity at the mouth of Onepoto stream. Come lend a hand.
