I joined because a wonderful bunch of people came out (organised by Spencer) and helped at a planting day last year at Whitireia and I enjoy the company of people who are interested in environmental issues and who do something about it. I also have a very rare plant at Whitireia Park (there are only 2 sites left in NZ) who needs a small dedicated team of people to help it survive by some finicky hand weeding every 2 months. It is a tiny herb called Leptinella nana (check it out on NZ Plant Conservation Network). if you want to help me help stave off extinction of this plant let me know. The skills needed are an eye for detail and enthusiasm to join me for an hour every 2 months to hand weed this.
Work as a biodiversity advisor at Wellington Regional Council and also have a personal restoration project at Whitireia Park, with others, in Titahi Bay, Porirua. Specialist knowledge in native plants and threatened species.
Excellent way to meet people interested in similar activities
