Together with the Public Private Alliance Foundation, Konpay, and SocialTap, and with the endorsement of our work by the United Nations Association of Southern New York and its Energy Project, we are looking to implement an innovative and localized project that addresses several issues at once. During the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All, we propose to address energy poverty, deforestation, human & environmental health, gender issues, economic empowerment and more -- all by introducing clean fuels & cook stoves in a community-based pilot evaluation program.
Please take a minute each day - It doesn't cost you a penny. Spread the word about this opportunity and cast your vote here:
Thank you ! Stay tuned for updates and upcoming events on the topic.
WHAT POPULATION WE SERVE:
Beneficiaries are largely women and children – those charged with cooking and with collection of firewood. And, of course, the environment.
ABOUT OUR CAUSE:
A community-based evaluation of clean cook stoves in Cyvadier, Jacmel area, and Seguin. Stove models will be provided to target communities, to use and assess economic, social, and cultural appropriateness. Feedback will inform potential adjustments. We will initially prioritize vendors of street food and community kitchens at schools or hospitals, whose public use of these stoves will increase visibility and acceptance. These evaluations will form the basis for roll-out and expansion.
WHY SHOULD YOU SUPPORT OUR CAUSE:
Poverty and Deforestation are key to the country’s socio-economic and ecological challenges, affecting various inter-related issue-areas.
HOW THE FUNDS WILL BE USED:
Funding will inform scale, locations and timing of the project. It will build local capacity, subsidize stoves for roll-out, cover monitoring and evaluation costs, pay for training workshops, and define feasibility of expansion plans. Several school kitchens will receive industrial sized stoves.

Our primary goal for this group is to connect you with the issues we care about. The issues that drive us and that we spend so much time working on. If we can inspire you, if we can share our vision with you, we succeed.
While we used to host a regular recurring Meetup for our members, we have decided to do away with this fixed monthly date. Instead, we hope that you will enjoy the events CDi and our friends and partners share here with you.
Particularly, we hope that this revamped group and format will encourage listings of and participation in bicycle rides in and around the City. You may know that, amongst others, we have a program called Miles of Trees (MoT). MoT is an athletic fund raising initiative for reforestation and tree nursery projects (in Haiti and beyond).
In the three years since Miles of Trees was launched, we have steadily grown, heavily pedaled, and significantly celebrated the rush and adrenaline that comes with physical exercise and the outdoors.
Now, we want to take the next step and really open up Miles of Trees to everyone, novice or expert rider. Previous MoT riders, current team members, and members of the MoT Organizing Committee will be using this group to post fun, training and practice rides.
These rides will vary in length, in time, and in difficulty. There will be rides for all of you. We hope you will enjoy this as much as we do and join us for not just a ride or two, but for a season and a cause. The 2014 season will have as its highlight our fourth annual Miles of Trees Flagship Ride from Virginia Beach to NYC – 4 days, 360 miles. You can do it!
