PETITION: End Military Assistance to Countries that Use Child Soldiers
One of the most tragic consequences of war and violence are the young lives that get caught in the crossfire. In some war-torn regions children are even forced to become soldiers themselves and made to fight and kill.
The US State Department recognizes six governments that still use children as soldiers. The 2008 Child Soldiers Prevention Act banned US Military Assistance for these governments, but three years later out of those six countries, the US still sends military assistance to five!
If we don't end this aid, these countries have no real incentive to stop recruiting children. No child should ever have their innocence stolen or their life destroyed to fight a war. Tell President Obama to keep our promise to the children of the world--end military assistance to countries that use child soldiers.
The recruitment of child soldiers is human trafficking, modern-day slavery. Many girls inducted into armed conflict are sexually abused. Boys are forced to commit atrocities to normalize brutality. We do not earn respect by talking out of both sides of our mouths.
If there is any moral line in the sand that can be drawn unequivocally, forcing children to kill should be that line!
Please join us in petitioning the President of the United States of America.
