Hello Community Gamelan members.  After a successful first meet up we are holding another at the Array Space. We have decided to request $10.00 per person but will hold off on making that mandatory. If you don't have it, come and donate what you can. There will still be light refreshments and juice, coffee and tea for all. The Array Space and the Gamelan need support so this wil insure we can keep these wonderful events going.

I have scheduled the Gamelan meetup for the first Saturday of each month July, Aug, Sept. and October so there are more chances to attend.  As for the cap on attendance.  I discovered, with the help of the first attendees, that 13 or 14 people are ideal.  However I can make room for up to 20 with some additional instruments and most times sudden events cut back on the 20 rsvps by a small percentage.

So The cap will now be 20. If enough people are on the waiting list, I may try to schedule another within the same time period. Let's see how it goes!

It's best to be able to remove your shoes.  Tight pants or short skirts are going to make playing uncomfortable so wear loose, comfortable clothing. You sit on the floor or on low stools. Have a look at the picture and you can see the height of the instruments.

The music was absolutely lovely and just what I had hoped it would be. We can dig a bit deeper next time and discover more musical pathways.

Hope to see you there,

Rick

Yes, that was fun. I'm listening to the Evergreen CD right now! Can we learn a real tune next time? I missed the meetups where you did that.

In Sept. we learned 'Jeruk Bali' (Pomelo) steaming on our ECCG site: http://www.evergreenc...; In Aug. I taught Kunang Kunang (Fireflies) which is the piece we segue into after - both tr. 4. It's on our album "Sunda Song" on the Naxos label. Those are both fun to play.

Pleased you could both come and 'caruk' (play interlocking melodies) together.

I'm a perpetually amateur musician (percussion-leaning) and it would be great to have others to play along with :-)

We'll be happy to share our passion for a side of percussion-leaning music you may not have experienced before. See you on Oct 5!

Welcome L! The instruments await your contribution to the soundscape. We get comfortable with some improvisation and later in the session we get introduced to some tunes.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
