Wednesday meetup. Since winter has begun from today, reservation is not possible. We can show up at the Westwood and try our luck. If the courts are too busy this Wednesday I try reserving courts somewhere close to Westwood for next meetup. See you all soon. Thanks.
Hey folks thanks for visiting our group site. This group will be monitored and perhaps a little restrictive to make sure we achieve our goals. Hopefully, once in the group, our members will have a predictable level of game and competition.
This group will be monitored by volunteers to achieve our 3 major goals.
1. Making sure all players in a meetup are of similar level (2.5, 3.0. 3.5, and 4.0 level). It is no fun for beginners getting disparaged by advanced players or for advanced players not being challenged on the court.
2. Improve your game through competitive matches. The group is not really intended just for hitting around or meeting people.
3. If a good team emerges, you are encouraged to compete in leagues (outside of meetup) as a team. You can contact me or other volunteers to help out with team registrations and most other logistics. Competition is the best way to enjoy this game and improve your game.
I have included few conditions below and some of them may sound ridiculous, but if everyone of us agrees and follows this we might keep frustration low and have more competitive fun on the courts.
Please consider joining the group only if you agree to the following conditions:
This group will cost you:
$3 for initial level evaluation. Additional $3 if you want to be reevaluated. This $3 is to offset the cost for meetup site, balls, courts, and other cost for the volunteers who are going to be evaluating. The time spent by volunteers will be voluntary. The extra money, if any, will be periodically donated to non-partisan charities and/or non-profit tennis camps.
The group will follow the NTRP rating (http://www.usta.com/Play-Tennis/USTA-League...). Unfortunately you will not be allowed to self-rate, since we have seen that depending on the region one hails from the ratings are all pretty different. So we will have me and few volunteers who will organize meetings once a week (hopefully) where each one of us will get a rating. The volunteers I have in mind are familiar with ratings and the ratings will be final until next evaluation. Your reevaluation (on request) for higher level will not be earlier than 1 month after the last evaluation and should have attended at least 2 meetups with our group in the month before reevaluation. If you want to be in lower level, due to injury or any other reasons, please email me.
You sign up, you show up and enter scores:
A slight margin for not showing up (due to emergency) is once every 2 months. Also, if you signed up and know that you can't show up please make sure you get off the list at least the night before. Also, after every meetup take out a few minutes and enter the scores that will help me keep tab on who all attended, and it will also help you evaluate players and partners for future teams. If some name is not entered that person will be considered no show. Bad or extreme weather cancels the meetup.
You will go only to meetups at your rating--with exceptions:
Most meetups will have a limit of 8 members. As an example if a 3.0 meetup has less than 8 players signed up till 4 hours before the meetup, the meetup will be open for players of 2.5 and 3.5 level to fill the meetup. A 3.5 meetup will open up for 3.0 and 4.0 players. 2.5 will be open only for 3.0 players. 4.0 will be open only for 3.5 players. Please do not sign up for a meetup that is not at your level until the last 4 hours before the meetup.
You are not a coach on the court, please do not be imposing. Make sure you bring good (not necessarily new) balls to meetup. Wear clothes with pockets or use a ball holder to hold the extra ball when serving.
