DFW Photo Expo #2

This meetup was recommended by Dean Singleton who provided the write up below. This is one of those OMG mini Photoshop World events. We are scheduling both days to help support car pooling. Car pooling may not be practical with this two day all day event. For car pooling, please add a comment about desired time, day, duration and location for the pool and we will see what we can work out.


The DFW Photo Expo held at the Arlington Convention Center on Nov 16 & 17 is an excellent opportunity to pick up a few tips, door prizes, photo products. This is the third year and last year was better than the first so I expect this one to be even better yet. There will be over 30 manufacturers present in the main room, 28 instructors in the various other conference rooms. These are all professional photographers or pros in their field. There will be seminars both Saturday and Sunday. You have to register for the seminars and I know one is already full so people need to sign up quick.

To sign up for the seminars and get registered simply go to www.arlingtoncamera.com , click on DFW Expo. Once on the Expo site you can view who the guest speakers are and some information on each. Decide what you want and go to the schedule page where you can click on the seminar you want. This will take you to the registration section for that seminar. When you have chosen all you want, you are led to the final registration where they get all your vitals. The best part is that it's all FREE! Except for a $5 parking fee.

Of course the manufacturers are there to sell you product and influence you to use their services, but a lot of the booths do instructional bits on using their products, such as Lightroom. All are willing and able to give you information, suggestions, and tutoring as needed.

The Convention Center is right beside the Ballpark. I've got a friend coming up from San Antonio if that's any indication of what someone else thinks of the Expo. It's really worth it in my opinion. Hope to see some of you there.

    I learned a great deal and was there both days. I did avoid the vendor room. I have much to learn before spending money.

    Did not stay for the 4:30 seminar, I had 2 hours to kill after the B&W seminar, thought that would give me way too much time to buy something I don't need ;~).

    Did anyone go to the "Technology in Transition" seminar?

      Sure did Peter. Sony showed us two new mirrorless cameras. One a 24 mp and a 36 mp, both full frame cameras. The 36 mp is body only for around $2300 and I think it was $2000 for the other. They also showed us photos of a new point and shoot that they say will completely revolutionize the point and shoot market. I think it had a 1 inch sensor. All sounded pretty interesting but not my area at all.
