Portraits

This month's topic is "Portraits".  The portraits can be of anyone.  The requirement is the subject must be looking directly at the camera.  Lighting can be harsh or soft depending on the subject.  The image at the right provided by Jim Motes has harsh lighting.  Does harsh light enhance of detract from the image?  Would the image be better with fill flash?  These are some of the questions we will explore this month.

As usual we will explore post processing techniques to create alternative views.

We will plan a field trip to the Dallas Arboretum "Dallas Blooms".

Results from prior meetings may be found at "The Complete Photographer Results".

Directions to Heritage Farmstead Schoolhouse can be found here.

I forgot to sign up to help out the museum after the meeting. Do you have a list of the functions they need us for?

Anita: I wll try to get the time to publish a list on the site.

I wish I could come on Tuesday. I am trying to move my other meeting but can't do it before next week. I will post a couple of images, though. Please let me know what the critique was on them.

I really enjoyed this one. It was really good seeing what others had done. I haven't spent a lot of time with people photography, and only once have done any posed portraiture. It looks like a lot of us feel more comfortable with candids and environmental portraiture.

Glad you finally found us! I was confused at first, too. Signs to show the way that we could take down later would really help newbies!

OOPS. Just read that an album will be opened. Did not see one on the invite. Is there a link?

    March 7, 2013

    • R. E. (Ron) M.

Go to the web site and click on Photos at the top of the screen. When that opens, you will see all the albums, one of which is Portraits. Click on that, when it opens to the first image, you will also see Add Photos. Click on that and it will direct you to select an image from your files for upload.

I'm not sure how this works. Are we supposed to bring a photo on a USB or something to share or should it be uploaded somewhere?

    March 7, 2013

    • Anita O.

upload to the website. If you click on photos at the top of the page and go to the portraits folder. You want to make your image about 2000 px on the long side, and have your name in the creator or author field in the file exif data.

Not really, but maybe 5 is enough.

Is there a limit to the number of photos you can submit?

Lisa: Each month has a theme or assignment. Guy or myself will open an album on the topic ahead of the meeting. Members will submit photos and insert them into that album.

Go to the top of the home page and click on PHOTOS. Next click on the album you want to submit to. Click on ADD PHOTO. It will allow you to search and submit the image. You can also add comments.

Before the meeting on the subject, Guy Huntley , Ed Auger, Roger Boulanger, Carey Pharr or I will review the images, make suggested changes (hopefully to improve the image] and then do the live critique at the meeting. The person submitting the image is asked to explain the image. Why this particular shot? What was your intent? Did you do any post processing? What is best about the shot? What is the weakest part of the image? EDUCATION! is the intent.

New to this group. Could someone please explain how it works? Do we submit images in advance of the meetup? If so, how? You can email me directly at [masked]
