Independence Gaming

  • Jul 4, 2014 · 10:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Welcome to Independence gaming 2014! Celebrate your freedom to spend an entire day (or part of) doing something you enjoy. I will have many games with me but feel free to bring anything you'd like to get to the table. Also feel welcome to bring grillibles as there will be a grill available for us to use. We will also most likely order food in throughout the day. We are a friendly group and welcome gamers of all skill levels. If you've never attended our boardgame meetup, this is a wonderful first event.

The location this year will be the function room of the Lutheran Church (note the boardgame group is not religiously affiliated). This space is being freely rented to us, but donations are accepted. We will have a donation jar out but you are NOT REQUIRED TO DONATE. If you wish to during the event, the jar will be easily available. With this space, we will not need to cap the event.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Forgot to tell you guys that we raised almost $75 for Concordia Lutheran Church's gasoline assistance fund to help people in dire need get to their medical appointments, new jobs, or job interviews! Concordia is one of two places that people can get such help when they most need it, so THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH! These donations are always optional, but the fact that so many of you stepped up & donated as a sign of appreciation to the church for using their space for our gaming is really humbling. The church here really appreciated it and enjoys hosting us, regardless of our donations. SO THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I had a great time even if Ben made us all play that party group game. All was good though, great fun, I hope to come to more of your game events.

Now that so many folks know 7 Wonders, I really would like to play a 7 player game, an 8 player game with the expansions, and the team version... And, soon, with the Babel expansion, once it is released! Now you know why I spent so much time teaching many people how to play it yesterday!!! I had an agenda! ;-). Lol. Seriously, I really look forward to the games referenced above in this post!

Thank so much for the invite. I had a great time. As Rob posted I loved 7 Wonders. I didn't actually order it last night but did tonight! LOL Now to get the kids to play with us.

Had a great time! Good to see people I've met before and to meet new people while playing some games! Sorry I had to leave somewhat early (in fact my first thought this morning was, "Man, I should have stayed at the church drinking soft drinks").

I'm sorry we didn't get to play anything Adam. It seems we like the same type of games i.e. tactical minis. Other than Legend of Drizzt, I had brought another called Earth Reborn which I haven't gotten to the table yet that is designed for 2 ppl.

      July 5, 2014

    • Adam

Lol, Kris, I think I'll be sticking to root beer for a while. Philip, hopefully we'll get a chance to sit down and play something next time.

Should I bring Tzolk'in or will someone else have it?

I have Le Havre, Goa, Brass, and several other classics still in shrink. Does anyone want to play any of these, and can anyone teach them?

I wasn't going to bring Innovation because it plays best with just 2, but I'll add it to the bag. I already had Race for the Galaxy packed for tomorrow. I'm also bringing Tzolk'in, Bora Bora, Glory to Rome, R-Eco, Through the Desert, and Cartagena. Some of those I need for my 10 x 10 challenge on Board Game Geek. We'll think about Brass for the next time. I'll get the rules read before then.

I have some interest in Le Havre

Anybody smart enough to find our meetup.com group on the interwebs is smart enough for our game group ;-)

      July 3, 2014

    • Gene T.

Hi Melissa. Every single one of us had a time when we had never heard of these games. It's just part of discovering something new. The key thing is that this is a group that is friendly, welcoming and eager to introduce people to hobby boardgames. My own mother, who says she can't learn anything new, who was hesitant to try a new game. She now has a 3 games we play together and she has a lot of fun. she originally thought that sorry was the only game she was capable of playing.

I'm also interested in finding local gamers who play the following two-player games: Netrunner, Combat Commander or ASL Starter kit. Any interest?

    1 · July 2, 2014

    • Steve O.

I won't bring the wargames because they would take a very long time to teach. For Netrunner, I'll build two decks using the base set to teach and play with. If you have a chance, the rules are at http://www.fantasyfli...

      1 · July 3, 2014

    • Adam

For the record, I'd love to try Combat Commander some day. I've been tempted by the series several times.

The object of these games is to learn games that is up to the intelligence of the players and not these American kid games.

    July 2, 2014

    • Kris

Maybe we should all just bring all of our games... Ha ha.

      1 · July 2, 2014

  • Steve O.

I'd like to get Descent 2nd edition on the table. I'll play the Overlord, and am looking for 1 - 4 heroes to try to stop my wicked schemes in this dungeon romp. Any interest?

    • Ben B.

I just want everyone playing to know they are in for a long game. Steve, what time are you planning to arrive? I'd like to get this one going in the AM

      1 · July 2, 2014

    • Steve O.

I plan to be there for 10:00 am. I will give a fairly quick explanation, and expect us to complete a quest in 3 - 3.5 hours.

I'll try to make it but I don't know if I'm working. I doubt I can get there for 10. I had wanted to try Betrayal House on the Hill when Ben had his meetup. I have Legend of Drizzt D+D board game which is fun.

    June 26, 2014

    • Ben B.

No problem about timing, we'll be playing all day! I'll be sure to bring betrayal (I just played last night lol)

      June 26, 2014

    • Gene T.

I recently saw the tabletop video for betrayal at the house on the hill. I can not wait to play that game! Count me in.

make sure you use the zip code 03301, if you are using a GPS or google maps to get here. Otherwise, you'll end up in Boscawen. Not sure why that happens with this address but it does. Found out the hard way!

    June 18, 2014

    • Kris

BTW, I got Google to fix it, so if you use Google Maps, you now should be okay!

      June 25, 2014

  • Kris

I am willing and able to teach folks 7 Wonders! Should I set a specific time or times with that? Arbitrarily I say 1pm and 3 pm
