Whether you live in condo apartment or you lease it out to renters, owning a condo unit is not as simple as owning a regular single-family home. It’s rather more complicated and involved!
In a condo you are a homeowner but you have a local mini-government comprised of your neighbors—the association board of directors—to contend with. You hope that the people on the board will make decisions that make life better and respect you as a homeowner. The people on the board want to trust that you will make decisions about your home and have behaviors that will preserve the safety and well being and finances of the overall community.
The apparent contradiction between individual homeowner needs and community needs can lead to conflict which if left unaddressed can become destructive.
We will meet up each time to hear presentations that are
• brief, so there’s time to have lively discussions
• informal, so anybody can easily ask questions or make comments
• substantive, containing useful information or insights
Our meetings will be in Oak Park, Illinois in locations easily accessible by car or public transportation and people from any part of the Chicago region are welcome to join.
Join us and come to the meetups if you want to:
learn how condos actually run
learn how to defuse potentially risky situations in your condo
hear other people’s condo stories
share solutions you have seen
be seen and heard—everybody needs to have a voice
connect and network with others who have gone through what you’re facing
have fun by also considering the light, humorous side of condo living
