This Meetup is an introduction to Kicad, which is open source [free] software. To make PCB's we need to use an electronic design automation [EDA] tool such as Kicad. Before EDA tools, PCB's were designed by hand, and manually laid out. These manual methods are time consuming, error prone, and require a high level of skill to get the kind of results you can achieve with Kicad. The introduction is in two parts, this part is on schematic capture. Part two follows on from part one and covers PCB layout.
This Meetup is held at CCHS [5 Kent Lane, Hawthorn], close to Swinburne Uni and Glenferrie train station. Please see the follow link for details on the location, parking, and public transport.
Description of meeting:
1. Meeting starts at 7pm with a short introduction to CCHS and the facilities available to you to help you make your professional quality PCB's.
2. Next, the tutorial will start with an overview of Kicad part one [this tutorial session].
3. A laptop [eight in total] with Kicad ready to go and a printout of the tutorial [this tutorial is also installed with Kicad] will be provided on the night. You will be able to work at your own pace on the tutorial until 10pm.
Please note: If you bring your laptop or PC we can help you, if needed, to install Kicad.
The only cost is the usual fee for using the CCHS space [e.g. $10 for one casual session], there is no additional cost for this tutorial.
