Why do you enjoy spending time out in nature?

Somehow, the quiet observation of natural phenomena helps still the mind. Walking meditations have been something I've done for years. Also, I've been a bit of a natural history buff in the past, learniing native flower identification in New Mexico and southern California. Would like to learn more about flora and fauna in the NW. Was active in the Sierra Club's Inner City Outings program in San Diego when I was younger. When I spend time in the forest or desert, I feel closer to God, and my awareness of the interconnectedness of things is enhanced.

Do you have rain gear and appropriate non-cotton hiking clothing?

Nylon convertible pants, and Marmot waterproof jacket.

Still relatively new to the Portland area. Have been involved with the Sierra and Mountain Clubs in NM. Approaching my 6th decade along life's journey, I find a slower pace allows much more time to observe the wonders of nature surrounding us,
