Yoga, Chakras and Hiking Half Day Retreat

NOTICE: This hike has been canceled by the organizer due to an ankle injury, but some of the hikers have decided to go anyway, without me. Check comments below. I've invited yoga therapist, Sharon Alexander (http://www.mountainwisdomyoga.com/) to join me as an expert guest for a half day hiking "retreat" that involves body mindfulness and chakras instruction, yoga and contemplative hiking.  We will do a 4-5 mile hike along the Colorado Trail near Buffalo Creek, Colorado, which is south of Pine, Colorado. The hike itself is easy to moderate, with nice views of the distant Lost Creek Wilderness, rock outcroppings and grassy meadows. There is also a short walk through a 15-year old burn area, which is haunting and beautiful in its own way. We will have to share the trail with other hikers and mountain bikers, but hopefully since we're getting an early start it won't be too bad.

We will have a discussion on body mindfulness and chakras at the start of the hike, then about mid-way through the hike Sharon will lead the group through some easy yoga moves (no experience needed). Extra "free" time will be offered for journaling or meditation. We will have lunch or a snack and then head back. This is an out-and-back hike of about 5 miles or less. Expect to be leaving the trail back to town around 1 pm.

Watch this video of Sharon and Margaret discussing chakras in the context of contemplative hiking: http://contemplativehiking.com/2013/05/07/chakras-yoga-and-hiking/

WHAT TO BRING: Snacks or bag lunch, daypack, water, sunblock, insect repellent (optional), journal (optional), appropriate clothing for hiking, watch.

WHERE TO MEET: At the Morrison & C-470 Park and Ride at 8:30. We will drive up following each other and I'll provide written directions. Carpooling at the PnR encouraged.

COST: A $15 donation is appreciated at the start of the hike.

WEATHER PERMITTING: If it's raining that morning, this hike will be postponed. Call or text[masked] to check in.

Glad you guys enjoyed the hike with Sharon. Thank you Sharon and I'll see you all soon. My ankle is doing better. I have to stop sitting on my feet, that's probably what tweaked it.

If you haven't done so already, please email me or leave a note here acknowledging that you know the hike is canceled. Otherwise, I'll have to show up at the park and ride to intercept those who still think the hike is happening.

Here is the link to the trailhead location for those who still want to show up and go together, without me.:
    https://www.google.com/mapmaker?...

From the Morrison PNR, take c-470 south to Hwy 285 toward Fairplay. Drive through Aspen Park and Conifer. At the Pine Junction intersection, turn left (south) on South Pine Valley Road, or Road 126. Drive through the small towns of Pine and Buffalo Creek. Approximately 4 miles past the town of Buffalo Creek look for Spring Creek Road on the east side. Pass the Spring Creek Road street sign, and continue for another mile (?) or so to Redskin Creek Road. Turn right onto Redskin Creek Road and there ought to be a sign for the Colorado Trail and a parking lot with restrooms.

Meeting place is still the Morrison Road PNR at 8:30 though.

Looks like dogs are allowed on leash. Stanley will be mellow during the yoga moves. He does an excellent downward dog. :o)

Hi Susie! Mellow dogs on a leash are OK!
