New Meetup: Centennial Cone & Cultivating "Beginner's Mind"

Announcing a new Meetup for Contemplative Hiking Along the Front Range!

What: Centennial Cone & Cultivating "Beginner's Mind"

When: Saturday, September 25,[masked]:00 AM

Price: $1.00 per person

Where: Centennial Cone Open Space Park
Camino Perdido
Golden, CO 80403

Centennial Cone Open Space Park in Jefferson County is a cone-shaped mountain in extreme western Golden with tree-shaded trails on the northern slope and sunbaked trails on the southern slope, with views of foothills and mountains all around.

During this silent, contemplative hike, which will be an out-and-back hike because the trails run about 15 miles around the mountain, I'll stop sometime during our hike and we'll have a discussion on the idea of cultivating "beginner's mind". This is the Buddhist concept of approaching anything in life with not just an open mind, but a mind of curiosity without expectations or judgments. This allows us to experience the world, nature and our life in a fresh way each day. It allows us to be less reactive and more introspective. Then we'll hike back silently and open it up for feedback during the last 15 minutes.

We can meet up at the Starbucks afterward and have a refreshment and socialize if that's something anyone wishes to do :-)

Let's plan for a 3-hour total hike, however many miles that will take us (out and back.) PLEASE NO DOGS.

DIRECTIONS TO TRAILHEAD: From Golden, take Colorado Hwy. 93 north approximately 1 mile to Golden Gate Canyon Rd. Go west about 8 miles to Robinson Hill Rd. Travel west approx. 8 miles to Robinson Hill Rd. and turn left. Continue to Camino Perdido, which is the north access road into the park. The trailhead is approximately one mile to the south.

CARPOOLING: I recommend we carpool up. There's a Starbucks off Hwy 93 near Golden Gate Canyon Road. Why don't we meet there at 8:20 am? It will probably take us 30 or 40 minutes to drive up to the trailhead from there. I'll have my white MeetUp sign on my car.

DONATION: I'm asking for a $1 suggested donation to offset the cost of MeetUp organizer fees and gas.

NOTE: In case of cancellation, please check this website for last-minute messages from me on the morning of the hike (in late September, you never know about the weather. I don't want to be driving up during a snow storm)
