Content for life (not just for Christmas)

Welcome to the The Content Creation Collective, a meetup for all creative types with a penchant for digital - writers, bloggers, editors, journalists, videographers, designers and producers - involved in the creation of content.

Bouncing off the success of our last event for Social Media Week, we're giving you another fantastically festive CCC before the year is out. Expect the usual industry idioms, spunky speakers and night-time networking with extra mulled wine, mistletoe and festive cheer.

Our final event of 2012 will be taking place on the 27th November at 6:15pm aboard the majestic HMS President on Victoria Embankment.

We've got some fantastic speakers who will be discussing the seasonality and longevity of content and why when it comes to online publishing, timing is everything.

Bertan Budak (@bertanbudak) is a journalist and digital content strategist for Dennis Publishing with experience writing for both print and digital publications, including the Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, Look magazine, MSN, T3.com and AskMen.com.

He is a regular contributor to the national broadsheet and tabloid newspapers and celebrity women’s magazines, and specialises in search engine optimisation and social media.

Jack Oughton is a Guardian blogger, freelancer and perennial creative. Currently making a chaotic living as a copywriter and journalist, Jack has written for publications such as FHM, Empire, The Independent, Yahoo!, Q, and more, covering everything from Szechuan cuisine to online dating. He occasionally exhibits portraits and event photographs when the chance arises, and has written tutorials on the finer points of Photoshop abuse for a global audience.

Jack can be found masquerading as a talking owl on Twitter:

I'm getting a website programmed and my developers have suggested using .flv format. I know nothing about videos, is this a sensible format to use on my website?

May I ask if you've checked your target audience what platforms they're using? FLV is great is streaming, but is not supported on many devices like iPhones & iPads. An Adobe Flash player needs to be installed, and the latest versions do not even care about older Mac's. HTML5 native video is required to serve state of the art devices, but different web browser nowadays require specific video formats. .webm, .mp4, .ogg are all required to serve the audience. There may also be a fallback into .flv for older web browser.

Hi Claire. This one is specifically about digital content but we're hoping to throw a video-focussed one in the New Year. Natalie (Organiser)
