Christopher Johnson talks about Microstyle

Christopher Johnson, the naming and verbal branding specialist behind the Name Inspector, joins us to discuss content at its most precise: the art and craft of microcopy.

His new book  Microstyle: The Art of Writing Little was just published. You can get a copy ahead of time or show up and find out what it's all about at the meetup. (Dwight Garner in the New York Times  digs it.)

NEW SPACE: The kind and amazing folks at the School of Visual Concepts are letting us use a classroom -- we'll be in 106.

This was a departure from the usual format, which is a good thing. The spirited discussion was peppered into a casual yet informative affair.

Very interesting to see how he analyzes name and language on an almost "molecular" level - sparked some really good roundtable discussions about words, text, and the web. Really enjoyed that format - like a grad school seminar, but in a good way!

Thanks for the great meetup yesterday guys! I enjoyed the discussion around microstyle and how it applies to pretty much everyone these days. Gonna dig into my book tonight...

I wasn't sure if I'd be in town or not. Now I'm leaving town tomorrow, so have too much to get done tonight to come listen anyway. Have fun! There will be video on the web later tonight, right?

The upstairs is called the Grotto, I believe, and I don't think it would be expensive. The theater is $85. Not sure who handles the Grotto, but a woman named Jane books the theater. You could just call up and ask who is in charge now.

James-- Might consider renting out the upstairs room at the Rendezvous. There's rarely if ever an up-front fee: They charge you a fee and then take it out of the bar tab.
