About the Talk
Ginny will look at specific ways to plan, organize, write, and design so the same content works well on all devices. Just tweaking some of your good laptop writing can make a difference for mobile devices - and make your content on the big screen, too.
In addition, this talk will show what works well for all your devices can also automatically give you great social media message - tweets, Facebook posts, and more.
DETAILS
Do you have a Laptop? Tablet? Smartphone? Even all three? Do you go to websites only on one? Probably not. Research shows that most all of us move back and forth among our devices, and expect the same content to be available no matter what device we are on.
You may have all three: laptop, tablet, smartphone. But many who don't have all of these devices have only a smartphone. It is their only access to the internet. You don't want to exclude all these people from your content, so you know you need your site to be on Mobile. But how should you do that? You've probably heard of "Responsive Design," a good choice. But Responsive Design is only the technology side of the solution.
What really matters is how well your content works on all those devices.
About Ginny Redish
Ginny specializes in content strategy, information design, plain language, usability and user experience research, and writing for the web -- including writing for the small screen of tablets and smart phones. Most of her work today is helping clients make information-rich web sites meet both business goals and site visitors' needs.
In 1979, Ginny founded the Document Design Center at the American Institutes for Research in Washington, DC, which she directed for 13 years. There, Ginny and her interdisciplinary team studied the problems that both writers and readers have with workplace writing. In 1985, Ginny set up one of the first independent usability test laboratories in North America. Users came to try out interfaces and documentation from Hewlett-Packard, IBM, SAP, Sony, and other clients. Since 1992, Ginny has been working with private companies and government agencies as a consultant in clear writing and usability.
