What do you know about Contra dancing?

Lovely Bri helped get a study done by "Dr. Love," a researcher on oxytocin, to find out what happens to dancers. The scientific study showed: oxytocin, the nerwropeptide & hormone assoc. with trust & social bonding, increased by 6%, more in men than in women; testosterone up by an average of 18%, and acth, a precursor hormone, increased by 51%. Dancing is energetic.

If you have Contra danced before, what originally got you interested in it?

My friend, Genie, from HI, kept insisting that I needed to be doing Contra. She was right. It took a couple of years after hearing about it before I finally drove the 1.5 miles to the Brentwood dance, then I was hooked. Where else would I exercise aerobically for a few hours, smile the whole time, and sweat profusely without groaning?

What do you recommend I do to help spread the word about these dances?

Contra dancing became a part of my life in 2007. Many dance-weekends later, I'm still dancing, and loving this community of wonderful people.

What Marilyn is saying about this Meetup Group

It is wonderful. More male dancers in our community would make it even more wonderful.
