Christmas Party. Come and share your favorite holiday food, cookies or candy.

We changed this event to December 14 @ 6pm. Since this is right before Christmas, we are seeing now if that date will work for everyone? We really get into the holiday spirit with decorations, baking and homemade candy and wanted to share that with you. Please only RSVP if you are for sure going to make it, since this is a very busy time. If none of you bake or make candy, please come anyway and just enjoy the holiday spirit!

Happy Holidays to all! Nice to meet you.

Thanks to everyone who made this gathering a big success, especially to our most welcoming hosts, Diane and Fred. Every bite was delicious, and enjoyed the spirited conversation.

Jesse and I really enjoyed ourselves. The setting was wonderfully festive and the conversation lively. Thank you, foodies, for sharing all those fabulous treats. Happy holidays!

THANK YOU to Diane and Fred for opening up your lovely and festive home to us for this fun evening. It was fun to chat with everyone and indulge in the goodies. Merry Christmas, all!

just made a batch of my "Christmas Crack" currently cooling for tomorrow. I just hope I can get it there without eating it all! :) See you all tomorrow! Looking forward to it!

Well, kids, only 5 ppl chimed in that they wanted to do the foodie-themed gift exchange. Seeing as that's less than a third of the group, I say we scrap it, as it's more fun if more than that participate. :0(

    December 12, 2013

    • Daniel M

I was thinking of bringing a gift. I certainly wouldn't mind it if other people did it without me as well.

      December 12, 2013

    • Fancy N.

Well, I originally posted the idea shortly after Diane posted the event. Only a few weighed in (thanlk you to those who did). I posted another msg 5-7 days ago asking ppl to weigh in and again most did not, so considering that the event is two days away and this is a busy (and often expensive) time of the year for many, I took that as a "silent no" from the majority. That's why I figured we'd scrap it. It felt like it was pulling teeth for ppl to answer one way or the other.

Hi Shruti, Your Indian dish sounds awesome! Hope to see you on Saturday.

Hello everyone :) I have RSVPed for this meetup. I most likely might be coming, if anything changes I'll make sure the group is notified. I am planning on getting an Indian dish :) hope thts OK

    Hi Jing,

Please bring whatever you are comfortable bringing. What type of food do you think of during the holidays?

    2 · December 10, 2013

  • Maria M.

Jing, you don't have to make candy. You can bring any kind of dessert or appetizer.

    1 · December 10, 2013

  • Jing

Hello everyone, I'm new to the group and I don't know how to make candy but love to learn! I will RSVP as soon as I figure out what to bring to share :) maybe some simple pastry, will that work?

    1 · December 10, 2013

  • Jennifer R.

Jesse and I will bring a five-layer dip (a staple at his Hispanic holiday celebrations...I talked him out of menudo).

    December 9, 2013

    • Fancy N.

      The 1980's musical group?? ;0)

I am still deciding between a few things, as always: Some gluvine (mulled wine)... though I am thinking transporting would be quite difficult. Also either cookies or a chocolate toffee cracker bark. I can also contribute to the gift exchange.

    1 · December 9, 2013

    • Fancy N.

Oh, I had the yummiest mulled wine at an artist's open house yesterday. That would be a good choice! What I've done to transport things like that is just duct tape the lid to the pot. ;0)

      December 9, 2013

    • Jennifer R.

I love that chocolate toffee cracker bark! Anything toffee, really. I will bring something sweet to share, as well.

      December 9, 2013

  • diane M.

Any of that sounds wonderful. I would also be interested in participating in the gift exchange.

    December 9, 2013

  • Fancy N.

So we are at at 5 who want to do the gift exchange. That's only about i/3 of the attendees, I would say we need at least half to make it fun...others please weigh in so everyone has time to pick up something fabulous this week...again, think gourmet condiments, unique kitchen gadgets, flavored salts, good quality chocolates, etc.... no just picking up a bottle of wine. Please weigh in yay or nay if you haven't. Thx! I am leaning towards chocolate-peppermint candy for my contribution to the party...a new recipe, hope it works.

I am also open to a foodie exchange.. something simple like gourmet salts, spices and such.

I'm sorry to say I won't be able to attend :-(. I was looking forward to meeting everyone!

I will bring my Danish Red Cabbage!!

    December 8, 2013

  • Fancy N.

Ok, kids, our Christmas Cooking Club Soiree is just a week away! Do ppl want to do a foodie inspired gift exchange? The idea would be to bring a new, wrapped foodie inspired gift, such as a groovy kitchen gadget or gourmet food item, etc. (food cheating with a bottle of wine...too lazy!) in the $8-$10 range and we'll play a game for the exchange portion. Yes RSVPs, pls weigh in ASAP so we can see if enough ppl are interested to make it worthwhile and fun and give everyone time to pick something up this week.

    December 7, 2013

    • Jennifer R.

It sounds like fun to me! Please, no more corkscrews. ;-)

      December 8, 2013

    • Fancy N.

Ooops, that's supposed to say, "no" cheating with a bottle of wine...). Yes, the idea is something really groovy in the foodie arena, not pedestrian, ordinary food items or gadgets.

Hi Maria, I got your email with your ph # and will call you a few days before the event. Looking forward to seeing you again...this is a GREAT group, you'll love it!

      November 19, 2013

  • Maria M.

I like the idea of a variety of sweet and savory food, because all sweets sounded like a little too much.

    1 · November 19, 2013

  • Fancy N.

I'm still in! I think you may have a better turn out if you extend it to "finger food" so those that don't bake or make candy feel compelled to join us with appies or anything else festive and "spirited". ;0)

    November 18, 2013

    • diane M.

Yes. I totally agree. That is why we changed it to "any food" that reminds you of the holidays. That way we are bound to have a variety.

      1 · November 19, 2013

  • Maria M.

YAY! That's a better date for me. Fancy Nancy, I'll take you up on that ride.

    1 · November 18, 2013

    • Fancy N.

Ok, I'll touch base with you a few days before hand, Maria.

      November 18, 2013

  • diane Masterjohn changed the date and time from Sunday, December 22, 2013 at 4:00 PM to Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 6:00 PM

    November 18, 2013

  • diane M.

I don't want to confuse everyone, but we wanted to see if December 14 @ 6pm would be a better date for our Christmas open house. If more people can attend, we are going to switch it to this date.

    November 14, 2013

  • Maria M.

Question: Are we bringing a certain amount and everyone gets to take some of everybody else's home, or is this just for eating while we're there?

    November 11, 2013

    • Maria M.

I really appreciate your offer Nancy, but decided to decline on this one. Too much going on during that week already.

      November 12, 2013

    • Fancy N.

Ok, catch ya another time, Maria! Happy holidays!

      November 12, 2013

  • Fancy N.

Anyone interested in doing a foodie related gift exchange with this event? This is such a creative group it would be fun to do a $10 gift exchange that's kitchen, food or wine related...gourmet food items, favorite kitchen gadget, etc. We could do it with the "Yankee Swap" game of stealing from others or choose from the pile of unopened gifts. I'd be happy to head this up if people are interested and our hosts are amenable. Looking forward to meeting you both, Fred and Diane. Was sorry I ended up having to miss your grilled pizza event.

    November 11, 2013

    • diane M.

I am open to that! It sounds like fun!!
