Let's Cook Something Extraordinary Pages

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who is this group for?
A: This group is for people who have a deep appreciation of food, and more importantly, the culture that surrounds food.

We want you to bring your expertise to this group. We would like to have experts in wine, not just wine in general, but experts of regions and varietals. I have a reasonable grasp of nebbiolo, but I know nothing of Bordeaux or Rioja. Bring forward your passion and knowledge.

We need experts in cuisine. I consider French, Italian, Chinese, and Japanese to be primal. If you disagree, we'd love to have you on board. Show us why.

We need experts in cheeses and deserts. Show us your craft.

We need people who not only love food, but the ideas behind food. If you defend a culinary tradition more passionately than your own house, you'll find a home here.

And more than anything, this group is for people who really want to cook. If you want to make a seven hour neapolitan ragu, or reproduce an elaborate dish from the French Laundry cookbook, you have found your audience.

Q: I want to learn how to cook or vastly improve upon my basic cooking skills. Is this group for me?
A: We consider ourselves chefs, not by profession but by avocation. For us the group is more of an outlet for our culinary passions, and we are looking for like-minded folks with a similar level of proficiency to join us. There are probably other cooking-related meetup groups that would be a better match for those with limited cooking skills.

Q: Where do the meetups take place?
A: I can now host many of our events in my home. It would be wonderful if other members could host an event from time to time in their homes as well. It is not necessary that your home be up for use if you become a member, but we would appreciate your offer to help organize an event in one of our homes.

Q: How often do meetups take place?
A: Every month if possible. More if people are ecstatic.

Q: How large are meetups?
A: Four to eight people is ideal.

Q: Are there dine out events?
A: Yes, please join our sister group Let's Eat Something Extraordinary.

Q: I am a vegetarian. Is this group for me?
A: None of us (the organizers and core members) of this group are vegetarians and we do not plan to hold any vegetarian events. Please take that into consideration if you decide to join the group.
