Walk at Waterfall Glen

Well, I've been out of town and then busy hosting a house guest from Europe, but now I can finally set a date. Let's walk at Waterfall Glen in Darien on May 20th, the weather forecast is warm and sunny. The trail is 9.5 miles and goes in a big circle around Argonne Labs. We won't do the full 9.5 miles in case you are panicking! Park in the lot off of Bluff Rd -- Cass deadends into Bluff, turn left onto Bluff and then right into the entrance where the sign says Outdoor Education Center & guard residence. There is a parking lot back there; you'll also have passed a few small gravel lots on Bluff at the sides of the road. This is not the main preserve entrance. We'll walk by Sawmill creek, see the mini-waterfall, see the ravines. Maybe walk 1.5 miles and turn around for a total of 3, or you can walk more if you wish.

A bit too hot at 90 degrees. We had a big group. Myself and two others started back at about the three mile mark because walking in the sun was getting to be a bit too much. All in all though I met some nice people and had a good time.

This was my first walking meetup and I really enjoyed the walk and the people. I intend to go again and do the full 9-10 miles.

I enjoyed meeting my fellow hikers and the beginning of the hike under the shady trees. The 2nd half of the hike along the railroad tracks marching on rocks in the hot blazing sun was grueling. I am also concerned about one of the hikers that could not walk at the end of the hike and appeared to need medical attention.

Nice day, great conversation, nice people. Ok, the walk wasn't exactly as advertised, but it was an excellent time. The Artesian made it 'well' worth it. And we got our hiking in. Thanks to everyone.

it was hot...the company was enjoyable... we got derailed (lost?) a few times... but we got in 5 miles and saw an artesian well... how great is that?.. regardless of the delays, nicely done Tom

By my count, about 18 of 27 RSVP'ers attended. Nice to see so many new faces!! I'm giving this a "4" because I think the weather was a bit too hot and the walk along the RR tracks was too rocky and no shade (when we veered off the beaten path). Also for such a large turnout parking was a bit of an issue. Tom V: Did you ever find the artesian well?

Chris, thanks for being my tour guide today and keeping from walking to Indiana! Man, I knew that I had gained a lot of weight but I didn't really know how out of shape I am. I really appreciate you walking with me and keeping me company.

We cannot be there Saturday. However, I spoke with Marge today. She is out of computer touch but said we are still going to gather for Waterfall Glen the end of May. Tom I hope you shall be there to show us the secret entrance you spoke of on Earth Day.
