Deer Grove Loop Hike

We will wait 10 minutes. Bring water and snacks. Dogs are welcome.

Length: 5.6 miles
Hiking Time: 2 hours
Configuration: Loop
Difficulty: Easy
Scenery: rolling woodland, ravines, streams, and wetland
Exposure: Shaded
Surface: Old pavement, dirt, and some gravel

The rolling landscape at Deer Grove is blanketed with thick groves of oak, hickory, and maple. Mixed in with the dense forest are ravines, marshes, ponds, and the occasional stream straddled by picturesque old limestone bridges.

From Chicago, follow I-90/I-94 northwest. After I-94 splits north, follow I-90 for 16 miles to IL 53. Head north for 6.3 miles on IL 53. At North Dundee Road (IL 68), turn left (west) and proceed for 2.9 miles to North Quentin Road. Turn right (north) on North Quentin Road and continue for 0.4 miles until you see the entrance to the preserve on the left. Follow the forest-preserve road for 0.2 miles until unnamed forest-preserve road for 0.6 miles, and then park at the first parking spaces you see on the right, next to the mapboard.

Nice hike, great area. Bad timing. The trail was fairly wet and muddy.
