Cheerful music, colourful costumes and decorated elephants – you are part of Esala Perahera! Join our celebration of this traditional Buddhist festival as you learn to create healthy regional vegetarian dishes with Mama Thamara.

Cooking with Mama brings Sri Lanka a bit closer to you. Sri Lankan cuisine is said to be one of the most complex ones in South Asia. It is renowned for its spices and although there is a South Indian influence, Sri Lankan dishes are fairly different.

This evening will be framed by a celebration of Esala Peraphera. Immerse yourself in this traditional Sri Lankan festival that celebrates a controversial Buddhist relic, the Sacred Tooth of the Buddha.

You are invited to Cooking With Mama’s Tasting Sri Lanka cookery class and supperclub! For this occasion, Mama Thamara has curated an intriguing menu full of fragrant smells, inviting colours and contrasting flavours that represent and embody the diversity found in Sri Lankan cuisine.

Feel like cooking? You can get involved in the cooking process of selected dishes (*) if you want. If not, do not worry, we will provide take-home recipe cards so you can recreate your Sri Lankan experience at home.


Appetizers – Dhal Wade (Crispy fried and spiced lentil patties)

Main – Wattaka kalu pol (Sri Lankan Pumpkin Curry)* served with rice

Side – Leeks Mallung (Shredded leeks with coconut)*

Dessert – Sago (Tapioca pudding) with mixed dried fruits*
