Come and join the army

  • February 8, 2012 · 7:00 PM

As many people will be aware, the Raspberry Pi £25 children's computer project will be open for orders any day/week soon. The Government have okayed the scrapping of ICT from the curriculum and the replacement with proper IT.

But there's a catch. Not all current ICT teachers will necessarily have the skills and knowledge to exploit this opportunity and fully implement a really good IT curriculum.

If we could form an "army" of Raspberry Pi coding advocates then we could help support a proper IT curriculum in Cornwall and really make a massive difference to our children and communities. The meetup will discuss the Raspberry Pi project and ideas on how we can make things happen.

Anyone up for joining the army?

My first time. Everyone was very friendly and inclusive and there was some interesting discussion. Wish I'd had a bit more time to have a play with some of the retro computers that people had brought along :(

I've recommended "Hello World" [ ] to my ICT/IT Teacher friend in Newquay as my daughter loves it. I'm not sure kids need yet another device though do they?

I might be able to bring a ZX80 along. Has anyone else got any cool antique computers?

Coding in not my field (basic HTML, CSS) but I'm learning through, maybe this could be a similar spring-board for students?

I can't make this unfortunately - however I think it's an excellent avenue to explore. It would be a shame if the Pi went the same way as the BBC Micro.
