April 2013 Corona NYC Meetup

Hi All!

We have just secured a spot for our second Corona SDK NYC meetup next Tuesday April 23 at the NYU Game Center (same place as last time).  Sorry for the relatively short notice, but we are very lucky to be able to schedule this meeting space.  We have the space starting at 7pm, so no need to arrive early, we'll probably get the talks started at 7:15pm.

I will do my Game Developer Conference 2013 presentation on free-to-play and ad-supported games based on everything I learned from doing Chip Chain with Corona SDK (~30 min).  I'll adjust it so that its a bit more Corona focused since this is a more focused audience.

We will also have Laura Tallardy give a 20 min talk about her experiences making children's games in Corona, working with business partners, transitioning from web development to Corona, and more.  You can visit her site at http://lauratallardy.com/apps/

Let me know if you are interested in giving a demo or a short talk.

If there are topics you can't speak on, but would like to see talked about, please post them here and maybe we can get someone to talk about it.

Thanks, and hope to see you on Tuesday April 23rd at 7pm!

Also for the people interested in localizing, here is the tutorial for localization that I use for my apps, it works great- http://www.monkeybin.no/blog/archives/2011/09/18/corona-sdk-localization-made-easy/

Thanks Aaron for organizing the meetup. I look forward to the next one. Would you happen to know the ad service used in Snuggle Truck? I was playing it and happened to like the full screen ads it shows. They look nicer than most I've seen. Fingers crossed it's something that works in Corona?

Here is a link to that awesome free Lua IDE, check it out:

    http://studio.zerobrane.com/

And anyone who wants to understand Lua can watch a presentation from the principal architect of Lua, Roberto Ierusalimschy. It's video number 10 on the following link "Small is Beautiful"

For those who don't know, Roberto was brought on board Corona as a technical advisor and mentor last Summer.

Thanks again Aaron for organizing the meetup, it was a lot of fun and really informative! I've got some great new features to implement in my new apps now :)
The Game Bakers page has tons of great case studies for apps and has a couple charts, and the full set of income survey charts is posted here: http://www.streamingcolour.com/blog/2011/09/28/results-ios-game-revenue-survey/ You can almost predict how much $$ you'll make depending on various factors, I've found it to be pretty accurate.

Anyway! Great meetup, awesome to see everyone, new faces and veteran Corona meetupers :)

Hey Aaron, I'd be happy to show off my latest app and talk about working with a dev partner, or cloning apps (or both). Drop me a line, [masked] :)

So far, we don't have anyone signed up for demoing, does anyone want to show the game they are working on, or some other interesting Corona tricks/projects they have going on? Please let me know!

It would be awesome for me personally, if anyone had any platformer game examples, or any details on working with tiled and corona. I haven't had much luck combining the two, and am looking into the MTE thats on the forum too.
