This group is for everyone who has a sincere desire to grow personally and to learn skills for helping others heal and grow. You will learn:
1. How to take a personal history and prevent suicide
2. How to begin, deepen, and close the counselling session and process
3. How to help someone who is grieving a loss
4. How to help others communicate better and resolve conflicts
5. How to help couples resolve specific issues: infidelity, household duties, addiction, and much more
Meeting 1 - 4 p.m., the purpose of this group is to discuss, observe, practice, and experience counselling skills and processes. The training manual to provide the basis and content of the group is "Effective Counseling Skills: the practical wording of therapeutic statements and processes" at http://www.amazon.com/Effective-Counseling-Skills-therape...
Simply by reading the manual, you will personally benefit even if you can't attend. Members are ordering the manual now. If you can't afford the Manual, suggest a purchase to your local library (see message board for a sheet to print or email to your library staff).
The skills and knowledge gained may enable the capable participant to embark upon a professional counselling career. Participants may become members of the College of Mental Health Counselling at http://www.collegeofpsych.com You can see an outline of the training and manual there too.
The group leader is Daniel Keeran, MSW, with over 30 years of experience in counselling and counsellor education. For a brief sample of the training go to the above website or click here http://vimeo.com/5937875 . See you at the meetup!
