Data Analysis for Genomics

This Sunday we'll be discussing the class material from Week 1 - so please be sure to finish the first 4 core lectures before Sunday's meetup.  If you have any specific questions you would like discussed, please post them to the meetup comments below so I can prepare accordingly.

Since most of the first week is an introduction to tools and statistical concepts in R, please also bring a laptop to follow along as we explore the concepts discussed.

NOTE: Out of respect for the Honor code any students taking this course for a certificate, we will not answer any of the homework/"Knowledge Check" questions, but we will gladly help with any of the underlying concepts that might not be clear.

Data Analysis for Genomics is a free HarvardX course that begins on April 7. This group is forming to prepare for the course, study together during the course and to create hands-on genomic analysis projects during and after the course.

This group will be led by Brett Bowman, a bioinformatician at Pacific Biosciences and has led similar courses at BioCurious.

I won't be able to make it either because there's a car blocking my driveway. Next two Sundays won't work for me, but I will come in May. See some of you on Tuesday for Craig's molecular cloning class.

How do I access an "R" library that is not in the collection already? I am trying to use 'purl' in the library 'knitr' but get the msg "there is no package called 'knitr" when I enter >library(knitr) into the R console.

OK, I finally figured out how access 'knitr' [it must be installed first: >install.packages("knitr")]. But there is a problem using 'purl' to access the file "Exploratory_Data_Analysis.Rmd" used in the PH525 course presentation: EDA Introduction. Anyone with ideas on this?

BTW, for those who don't have much experience with R and who like the MOOC medium, there's a Coursera course which just opened today which covers it: https://class.coursera.org/rprog-002
