Did you know about the wonderful Cherry picking opportunities we have within an hour's drive of LA? I didn't know either until last summer. The Leona Valley is home to many amazing orchards specializing in this delectable fruit, one of my favorites. Unfortunately the season is short (only as long as 4 weeks in late May/ early June). I definitely plan on revisiting the farm we went to last time, which has 6+ varieties of cherries that's certified organic for approximately $4/lb. They also have delicious local cherry blossom honey for sale in glass bear jars. This is kid friendly meetup, too!
We can have a nice picnic on the farm grounds before or after we pick our cherries.
Leona Valley is next to Palmdale and Lancaster, and is approximately a 1:15 drive from Santa Monica, 1:10 from Pasadena, 1 hour from Burbank/Glendale, 1 hour from Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks.
We'll be leaving from North Santa Monica (around Ocean & Montana Ave), please leave a comment below if you want to carpool from Santa Monica! We have a minivan that can seat up to 8 people total.
