Deep Woods Campout

To prepare for the Glacier, Banff, Jasper trip I would like to get in a couple of camping trips.  We will ride to Sister's and camp in the city park. The fee is $15 ($10 for seniors). Two bikes can share a campsite. Jim Epperley will lead.

Given the flooding in Calgary, is the Banff trip still a firm "go," or is it a wait n see?

Changed the date to Saturday June 22nd. Jim will lead the group to Sisters. The weather in Sisters is supposed to be in the high 70's low 80's. It should be a great ride.

I can't do Saturday. Have a niece's high school grad party to go to. Would you want to take this over and lead the group to sisters?

I will not be attending. Rain camping has no real appeal to me, plus I don't have the right gear.

Count me OUT. I got more unpacking to do

Ok Guys I checked all of the weather sites and Wednesday and Thursday both look wet. Chance of precip varied between 30 and 90 percent.

How many of us are still up a campout....a slightly damp campout?

Oh bummer, I am going to be in classes all day. Wish I could.

I got busy with other stuff and forgot to call. We are getting ready to go to Vegas....no not Steve's house....the real Vegas.
Let's go with the lady's recommendation. The weather is looking kind of iffy for Wednesday. Thanks for calling and posting Ski.

    June 12, 2013

    • Ski

You're welcome! Have fun in Vegas! was thinking of posting a ride for Saturday...will you be back by then?

      June 12, 2013

  • Ski

I called the camp ground to make reservations and the lady said they are still pretty open and that we wouldn't need reservations...conflicting information to say the least.

    June 12, 2013

  • Peder E.

I talked to the folks that handle reservations for the campground. They will not hold the campsites unless we pay in advance. So each of us need to call[masked] and reserve a spot. I am going to do that tomorrow. We should try to get campsites that are close to each other, so when you call ask if any from our party have reserved a site and ask to get one close by.

The Banff trip starts August 4th and will most likely last 2+ weeks.

You are right. NF 25 is closed and the upate I got today is that it will not open until 07/04. So we will ride to Stevenson for lunch. I am thinking the Walking Man Brewery, but there are several other good choices. Distance is about the same. Since we will be going through Carson, I would really like to try the Backwoods Brew Pub, but they are closed on Wednesday.

I was also riding through Cougar yesterday and found signs that indicated that the road to Randle is still closed by snow.

    Pete,

A lot of times the campgrounds will let motorcycle campers put two tents on one site since we have small tents that don't take up much space? You might want to check and see if this campsite does that. It's nice because we really don't need much room and you can split the overnight fee. It will definitely be something you want to ask as you go on your big camping trip.

Road up to Cougar today for lunch and checked out the campground. It is about .3 of a mile from the Cougar Bar and Grill, so when we get back from lunch, we can walk up to it for a cold beer. The park does not allow alcoholic beverages. I talked to the camp host and asked if we need reservations. He said that there are 60 campsites and only three were in use today, but to make sure we had spaces he recommended that we get reservations. So, I will reserve 4 campsites.

Sounds fine to me, I like trying new places

Changed the over night to the Cougar Park and Campground. It is closer to Cougar and has showers. After we get camp setup I am thinking lunch at the Mt Adams Café in Randle. It is 61 miles north and a little east of Cougar. Map Quest says it is about a 2 hour drive.
