Message from Craftsy:

Hey all. Are you looking to share your crafting spirit with those in your area? Want to find crafty friends? Well, this is it, this is YOUR event. You're invited to the 2012 Craftsy Meetup Party! To make it even more exciting, we're giving away boxes of fun Craftsy swag and crafting goodies to the top 10 Craftsy Party Meetup locations by January 5th, 2012. It's simple to get started!

Step 1: RSVP for your city

Step 2. If interested in helping out in your local community, become an organizer & pick a place to meet. Maybe you'll chose a coffee/tea shop, library, restaurant or other public meeting space.

Step 3. Decide what you would like to do at your party. Can't think of an idea? How about some of these fun ones: share a current project over coffee, form a craft stash swap, create and donate an item for charity, create adult/child craft tables, or demonstrate a crafting technique.

Most of all, we want everyone to have fun. Send your Craftsy party photos to us at meetup@craftsy.com. We'd love to see your party in action!

The date time and place is set as shown above. Our first meetup will be as shown above on January 26, at 5:30 PM. We will meet at Carisa Brunner's Made Sewing Studio at 8408 Greenwood Ave. N. in Seattle. Please bring your current projects along with samples and pictures of things you have made recently. If you have patterns, please bring them to share. Make sure you bring something you can work on also. I will post more details as the date approaches. I am looking forward to meeting all of you.
OUT OF CONCERN FOR ALLERGIES, THIS WILL BE A FRAGRANCE FREE MEETUP.

How strange, I keep posting on the new date, March 15th, but I see others are posting here on the January 26th date, so I'll post here too. I am bringing the fairytale dress pattern downloaded from craftsy website and sure could use any help some of the experienced people who sew who are attending could lend. This will be my third garment I've ever made and it's my niece who begged me to make it for her for her baby girl.

Planning on it. I will bring back the Promise stitch for anyone who missed it -- bring a needle (threaded if you like).

We had a really nice meeting again this evening (February 16th). There were only about 7 to 10 of us there, some new and some from last month. We missed a lot of you and hope to see you at next months meeting. It will be the 3rd Thursday in March (March 15), same time, same place. Sue showed us how to do the Promise Stitch tonight so we now know how to do that and I'm sure any of us would be willing to pass it on if you are interested.

Hope to see more of you there again March 15th.

Thanks for not sharing Pat. We missed you but I'm sure none of us wanted a bug. We learned the promise stitch and then mostly we just sat and talked and got to know each other. Most brought something that they were working on to share so we saw some beautiful quilts, some hand embroidery, and some beautiful decorative pin cushions with an explanation as to how they are made. I can't remember anything else, but maybe someone else can add to this.

Nice write up on the notes from 1/26, Carisa. Looking forward to the Meetup this Thurs. 16th --May be a few minutes late as I have an afternoon meeting and it will depend on finding parking. I will teach you the Promise Stitch, so if you think of it, bring a hand sewing needle and perhaps a small pair of scissors. Sue

Hi there! I'm so sorry it took me so long to get all the notes done! I had a fabulous time meeting all of you and hope you can make it again this Thursday :)

I believe Sue will be showing us the Promise Stitch she mentioned last time , which is handed down by oral tradition and originated in the Appellation Mountains. Here is a link to my blog post with all the notes and links http://www.madesewing.com/2...

I didn't make it but would like to know how many different crafts etc were represented. Quilting, embroidery, knitting etc. how was the meeting run? Did everyone get up an explain their project? Age variation? Does anyone have any idea when the next meeting may be? I know, a lot of questions. Thanks in advance!

Posted by Steph LaLuzerne January 27, 2012
    • Liz Swearingen's Photo

Carisa took notes and will be posting them for everyone that could not make it. She will also be planning the next meeting and we were talking about doing one a month so probably sometime in late February. Just in general, it seemed to me that all ages were represented from the 20's through the 60's and everyone got a chance to talk about their interests and show their projects. We got plenty of time to visit too and look closer at different projects.

When we were talking last night I was trying to think of a quilt shop that does retreats. At the time I could not remember where it was located and told you all that I would think of it in the middle of the night. Well, I did. It is the Wild Rose Quilt Shop in Orting, WA.

I just got home from the Meetup. What a great time I had. I'm sorry for those of you that missed it but we will be doing it again. I found so many things that I want to learn how to do. It was a great group of people, Carisa's studio was a wonderful place to meet and the food and wine were wonderful. Carisa is going to take on the planning from now on so she will be posting here about future meetings. She also took notes tonight and will be posting those for all of us.

I am still stuck here at work. I was told we would end at 5:30 today and thought I could pop in around 6:30 but now it's looking closer to 6:15, 6:30 before we can end our day. I have been looking forward to this for a couple weeks and am so disappointed in missing our meetup. I will take half day off on the next meetup so this won't happen again.

Can you give us some idea about parking in the area Carisa? Is it street parking and in the evening is it fairly easy to find a parking place? I am really excited to meet everyone tonight and see what they have been working on and like to do.

Posted by Liz Swearingen January 26, 2012

Hi Liz! There is lots of street parking in the area, if you focus on the more residential streets (not 85th or Greenwood) you will have lots of luck :)

Thank you Carissa for the verification on beverages and snacks. I'm going to try to bring a scrapbook, quilt, and maybe some crocheting and/or knitting. I am hoping for lots of new ideas also.

Okay, I'm game. Will probably bring some of my doilies as samples; I am working on a crocheted tablecloth for my son and his fiance but also have sewing, serger, and embroidery projects going. And I will bring a snack along to share and possibly an adult sipping beverage. I am coming from the Seattle waterfront - does anyone want a lift?

Hi everyone! I'm the owner of Made and wanted to let you know you can bring snacks and beverages. I will try and set up a little space for snackage and such. Adult beverages are allowed, just let me know ahead of time [masked] Also, all crafts are welcome! Jewelry, Sewing, Knitting, whatever floats your boat! :) Looking forward to seeing you all soon!!

...and here I thought I'd be the oldest in the group! Ha ha. I'm not sure what I'll bring to work on (art journal, crochet, hand sewing....) but I will try and remember to bring some of the Japanese sewing books I've bought at Kinokuniya lately if anyone wants to give them a look.

I may also attempt some vegan baking to bring along and share (I have food allergies). Depends how much I want to haul on the bus and I'll be coming from work, too.

I don't know Pat, I'll toss you for who is the oldest but it doesn't matter as long as you like crafts. I would like to keep this as simple as possible so if you want something to sip on while there, please bring your own beverage. I am going to try to bring some food to share so if anyone else wants to it would be appreciated.

So the things to bring are:
      1. Crafts to share
      2. Craft to work on
      3. Your own Beverage
      4. A snack to share (if you want)

Okay nobody picked an earlier date so let's leave it at Thursday, January 26th, 2012. That gives us time to recover a little from Christmas and face some of our projects again. Out of courtesy for all participants please keep this fragrance free. I would like to make this an idea swap so bring your projects with patterns (if there is one) along with at least one incomplete project that you can work on during the evening. If this works for everyone I will post details Friday, next week.

These is my suggestion for this first meeting. It will be held at Carisa's Sewing Studio at 5:30 on Thursday, either January 5, 12, or 19. I arbitrarily stuck to Thursday because the only nights that were not mentioned that someone could not attend were Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We could do it perhaps Sunday afternoon if that works for everyone, but Friday and Saturday are usually bad days for everyone. (cont.)
