Stanley Park is one of the treasures of Vancouver and we're fortunate to have such a great park within our city limits. Unfortunately some people don't attach the same value to our park and discard items haphazardly, without any regard for our park. On regular trails, the city takes care of things, but off-trail a lot of stuff is left behind and falls beyond the jurisdiction of city employees.
A couple days ago, a lovely hiker, from the mid-west US, suggested that we go through the park, go off-trail and pick up what is left behind by others. Thereby leaving our park in better condition than we found it. And I Love this idea.
Sometimes people recklessly use and abuse something, and leaves things in worse condition. A lot of the times, people leave things the way they found it. Very rarely, people suggest something that improves the trail or off-trail, that others walk along. And i'm happy to support an idea that improves something for the rest of us.
So for this hike/walk, we're going to go off-trail, as often as possible, sometimes we'll find a good trail, sometimes we'll have to back track. But along the way, what doesn't belong in Stanley Park, that is beyond the jurisdiction of the gov't, is something we'll take out of Stanley Park and dispose of accordingly.
Hope to see you
