A poetic evening with Wendy Cope

We are delighted to be able to say that we will be joined by celebrated poet Wendy Cope OBE for our October meetup. She'll be reading some of her work and inviting questions and discussion afterwards.

Wendy's career as a published poet has spanned almost four decades. In that time she has been awarded the Cholmondeley Award and the Whitbread Award, as well as being twice voted as the public's choice for Poet Laureate.

Fantastically witty with brilliant control, Wendy's principle subject of relationships is explored in light, but no less meaningful, verse. Lauded for excellent usage of parody her style has been compared to that of Phillip Larkin and John Betjeman.

Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear such an amazing and adept poet perform live. Plus, with such a great career behind her Wendy will be sure to have some interesting answers that'll give an insight into the person behind the poems.

My first time at this meet-up. Really great to hear Wendy's thoughts, and to meet some like-minded people.

Another lovely evening, still smiling at the poem about the Archbishop of Canterbury in his running shorts. And it was great to be treated to poems inspired by Ely life and enjoy that shared experience. Highlights on the blog now: http://www.creativeely.co.uk/a-poetic-evening-with-wendy-cope/

Will try to attend, as looks really interesting. But next week is the performance week for "Dunn Inn at Halloween" - hooray!

Rather than going to see a fantastic writer I shall be graduating from a writing degree unfortunately.
