Workshop: RED: A WORKSHOP DEDICATED TO THE COLOR RED

Working with three different canvases, we will explore multiple approaches and techniques for mixing paints and understanding how the color red works. We will experiment with wet into wet, dry layering, transparencies, collage, and other techniques to assist each student in developing a broad range and effect of the color.

**Required Materials:
- Three 12×18 canvases (or approx)
- Charcoal, rags, and items for collage (colored papers, scraps, phone bills, love notes, etc.)
- All other painting materials provided (brushes, paints, etc.)

Cost: $125

The approach with which I teach is one aimed at helping participants to relax into the present moment while engaging in an exploration of the working materials. The exercises that we use are designed to help free ourselves from our internal critic – the voice of comparison and judgment – to thereby immerse ourselves in learning the intimacies of the paints and other mediums. We take the focus off of achieving a ‘finished painting’, and place it on the quality of the process. The goal is not simply to learn new painting techniques, but to (re)discover a joy for experimentation and risk-taking, where successive ‘failures’ become revelations.

I had a wonderful time teaching the workshop yesterday. Excellent job to Merilyn, Samina, Stephanie, Christina, and Delfina. Looking forward to the next one in July!

Hello Delfina. The canvas size does not need to be exact to the dimensions Todd mentioned earlier, so feel free to bring what you have available. I believe the general idea is to use canvasses that are on the small/medium size. ~kenya

Hi Chansonette, I'm so glad you're inspired. It really is a great way to spend a day. And I will again be teaching the texture workshop in the future. Right now I need to figure out how to set-up/link a paypal account to this, or to my blog, (I have yet to do this before) to make preregistration easier. Normally I have people send a check, but paypal would be much easier.

Apologies to everyone for not having more info available (i.e. "cost"). I just signed up with meet-up, so i'm still learning the system. There is a fee for the workshop, however, most of the materials are included. It's an eight-hour creative day with a lunch break. Participants are free to bring/share a bottle of wine for the 2 last hours (we might go all astray if we start any earlier!).

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
