No charge.   Open invitation to join at

At 7:00 p.m., we'll begin with the organizer presenting brief craft examples in fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and plays from the current edition of Janet Burroway's "Imaginative Writing: Elements of the Craft."

At 7:30, we'll begin writing for 60 minutes and at 8:30, we'll share (optional) excerpts from work-in-progress.

Organizer: A recent MFA in Creative Writing, I've published comic-ironic stories in literary magazines such as San Francisco's ZYZZYVA, Berkeley Fiction Review, Ishmael Reed's Konch. Current projects:  a novel "Speak Up, Roma"  and my blog <>. I started teaching myself creative writing by studying Janet Burroway's "Imaginative Writing," first edition, and writing a successful application story for a local MFA program. This study prepared me to make better-informed comments in the MFA workshops and later in consultations with professional editors. See  my book-review of the  fourth edition, on my blog and on

(Earlier, I received a Ph.D. degree in Psychology at Stanford, specializing in Organizational Behavior.) --  C. J. Singh <[masked]>

Three regular members attended and Eva Huang attended for the first time. We talked briefly about Alice Walker's creative nonfiction "Beauty..." from Burroway's book. At 7:30 we wrote our works-in-progress for 60 minutes. Eva and Wattie shared their excerpts. Bonnie took the option of posting her work-in-progress at the CreativeWritersBerkeley website.
