Details

We'll be sailing my Formosa-46 in the MA Bay area, from Quincy Harbor. The Formosa is a classic ocean going boat, elegant under sail, fun and comfortable. Find many pictures in the "Photos" section of the CrewFinder site. Or learn more about the boat's tech specs here> http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=2522

Your RSVP to this posting is an "Offer to Crew". While we are out having a good time, when serving as "Crew" you will also be involved in operating the boat, under my direction and as fits your level of know-how.

Build a reputation as dependable Crew: In advance of the sailing day be responsive, reachable through direct methods, and true-up your RSVP Status no less than 48hr before meet-time.

Use the Questions attached to the RSVP to enter your reach info, and find mine there. RSVP Q&A is private, not open web search, and preferred to putting personal info in the public forum. If you have given your contact info on a previous sail, please do it again. It's a convenience to have all the crew's info attached to the specific sail-day.

Use email, text or phone for time-sensitive comms. Messages sent through the MeetUp server suffer delivery delays and are not a reliable for contact in the 48hrs before the sail. Sending a note about change of plans? Use direct email, Not the message link on my Profile, and --especially-- Don't assume any note you enter on this posting will be seen on the day of the sail.

Learning to sail? Seasoned sailor? Social-boater? All welcome. Different sailing plans call for different Crew (as with racing, or a longer cruise). I balance the roster a mix of experience. Crew may change close to sail-day, and could cause your RSVP to be cancelled. This is not a personal rejection. The roster is unique to the day, your offers will still be welcome on a future sails.

Conditions can change while sailing. We're out enjoying water and weather that we don't control. A moderate day can easily turn rough. Please speak-up if you ever feel conditions are progressing beyond your limits. Come prepared with seasickness remedy, or advance prevention, if you've ever suffered motion sickness in other activities.

Sailing harnesses strong and unpredictable forces which put stress on the equipment, stir-up the ocean and make physical demands on all aboard. Injury is an ever present risk. When joining a sail, you choose to take this risk upon yourself and accept personal responsibility for your own safety. With this in mind, please make informed decisions whenever you Offer to Crew.
