Dear Folks,

Can you please visit my website http://www.criticalth... and give some suggestions, comment and inputs on what we are hoping to do.
We are trying to connect Critical Thinking experts with High school students to bring new young thinkers with skills needed to succeed in marketplace and careers.

As you guys have been doing this quite well in your community mostly for professionals I am sure we could use your guidance and help.

Would you be able to take this up in your local area high schools?

I am also wondering if you know folks that have knowledge in the subject in San Diego area that could mentor the members(High school students)?

Thanks for your help and guidance.

Milo Schield, a member of the Club's Steering Committee, wrote:

As a critical thinking club, our mission is to encourage our members to utilize -- to demonstrate -- their critical thinking skills in presenting topics and arguments and to encourage our members to utilize their critical thinking skills in analyzing and evaluating the arguments being presented. Our mission is not to teach critical thinking as a course or workshop.

I don't know of any one in the Dan Diego area who teaches critical thinking. But I imagine there is someone at most local colleges who might be more helpful.

If I were to try to teach critical thinking to high school students, I'd consider using books like these:
> Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Reasoning, Logic, Arguments: Book 1 (Grades 7-12) Pb Anita Harnadek
> Critical Thinking: Problem Solving, Reasoning, Logic, Arguments: Book 2 by Anita Harnadek
> Comprehension and Critical Thinking (Comprehension and Critical Thinking) pb Jamey Acosta
> Building Thinking Skills : Book 1 : Critical Thinking Skills for Reading, Writing, Math, and Science by Parks and Black
> Critical Thinking Skills: Developing Effective Analysis and Argument (Palgrave Study Guides) by Stella Cottrell
> The Miniature Guide to Critical Thinking for Children by Dr. Richard Paul (2006)

Thank you Milo Shield.

We have taken inspiration form this group and how things are done here.
Even though we are focusing on high school students, what they don't want is learning from books making it in to another class.
The teaching as a matter of fact learning will be in the format of reading and discussing with more emphasis on discussing and collective work.
So far there are 10 schools in the regions who joined to form their chapters in schools.
Fortunately we found experts in the field to guide the students through the discussions.
The suggested books will be passed on as recommended reading for the willing.

Facebook page is being used currently to disseminate fun content and sharing reading material through Google docs for the members. We are expecting this to grow to another 10 schools this year reaching 500 membership.
Checkout Facebook page and you could follow to se what these young minds are discussing and talking.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Check our website as well as we will make changes to it as we move along making it a full featured portal http://www.criticalth...
