Friday Night Ski at Hyland Park Reserve - Après-ski

  • Jan 24, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

All this cold weather is cutting into our skiing and is making me antsy!  I've been keen to ski on the new lit trails at Hyland, and now I'm hearing that the weather is predicted to improve some by Friday, so lets go!

Meet in the Hyland chalet at 6:30 PM on Friday 1/24.  The plan is to be "skis down" around 6:45.  We will break into groups based on skiing style (skate or classic).   Then find a buddy or two to ski with, and we will meet up again back at the chalet after a loop or two.

The Essentials:

A Three Rivers ski pass is required (a daily permit can be purchased for just $5 at the chalet) and parking is free.  Classic and skate rentals are available.  Please show up at least 15 minutes early if you are renting.

MEETING LOCATION:  Highland Lake Park Chalet.  South on Highway 100 past 494 then West at 1st Stoplight (W 84th St) which turns into E Bush Lake Road.   Past the downhill & ski jump.   Continue going on E Bush Lake Road (Keep going left) to the Highland Lake Park entrance which is about 3.2 miles from Highway 100.  Take a left & chalet is about 1/2 mile with parking.

Make sure not to go to the downhill ski area or the Nature Center, but to the visitor center. Here is the corresponding web site:

Being a Friday night, an après-ski is in order!  We could meet at Poor Richard's Commonhouse  around 8:45 for some socializing (or another venue, if a better option presents itself).

The new trail is awesome! That made the challenge of getting to the park in traffic worthwhile. Decent snow, fun people, good times!

The traffic is turning my 20 minute drive into a 50 minute drive so I am going to have to skip this. Hoping to get out with this group soon!

Given the size of our group, I made a reservation at Poor Richards Commonhouse for the Après-ski at 8:45PM under the name "TC X-Country Ski Meetup Group". (952)[masked] Normandale Blvd, Bloomington, MN which is on the Northeast corner of 84th st & Highway 100 (just south of 494).

I do classic style and it's been a year or two since I've been on my skis but I'm excited to be out in the beautiful weather we are expecting.

Me too! The high is predicted to be around 30F, so as long as the wind behaves, we should be in good shape.
