Described as “The voice of 2013” by The Evening Standard, the classically trained, singer-songwriter’s music fuses orchestral soul with velvety harmonies and emotional vocals giving nods to Nina Simone, George Gershwin and Björk amongst others.
A graduate from the Birmingham Conservatoire with a degree in composition, the 26-year-
old is a unique collision of her Caribbean background and formal music.
Since announcing the release of her debut EP ‘She’ back in November, Laura has been picking up critical acclaim and support from some of the biggest tastemakers out there.
'Laura Mvula is one of the most highly touted would-be stars of 2013: she is one of only three acts to appear both in the BBC Sound of 2013 poll, voted for by industry tastemakers, and on the shortlist for the Brits Critics' Choice award, previous recipients of which include Jessie J, Emeli Sandé, Florence + the Machine and Adele.' The Guardian
'Beautiful in voice and soul, lift your eyes skyward and watch this girl soar.' Clash Magazine
'Laura Mvula's debut album is an amazing mix of influences, yet her voice is her own - and great, the Birmingham Conservatoire graduate may be about to release a masterpiece ...' Sunday Times
